Sorrel Destruction-Gringoire

Although they'd all been caught up in the moment of the hunt, it had soon become pretty clear that Frith had wounded himself during the mayhem of hunting the goat. He may not have often shown any sort of care to most of the pack though moments like these some form of compassion would show through. He wasn't taking no for an answer, Frith was definitely going to let him look at that wound and Sorrel was definitely going to do something about it, they had to get away from everyone else first though.

"Aslan will look after Fate. This way." An almost authoritative tone overtook his voice, so out of place for Sorrel really especially given that the Chapter was speaking to the Author. It certainly wasn't his place to tell Frith what to do but as a healer he was going to and as a patient, well Frith and just better listen. He wouldn't be too happy if he couldn't do his job and frankly he was pretty sure that Novella wouldn't have been happy for Frith to continue wandering around without having someone look at his injury.

The hunt had gone well he thought, even as the adrenaline started to wear off and the pain became so much more apparent he was thrilled with the results. Even though he'd been bleeding all over the place. Dual colored gaze would notice that now, as well as the puddle that formed under his belly. Now that he thought about it he realized that he was in a pretty bad place. Already he could feel himself growing a bit light headed. "This way." Features would snap to the boy who'd issued the order. Already knowing exactly what protest Frith might offer.

Even he knew when to submit to authority, his ears would fall to his head as he followed his nephew. He wasn't sure where they might go but he did know the boy was right in pulling him aside. He would have done such for any of the members and he expected them to follow the healer's orders, he himself had to do the same. So the Author would put up no protest as Sorrel led him away.

Sorrel Destruction-Gringoire

The ideal thing probably would have been to drive everyone else out of the way rather than making Frith drag himself. For that reason Sorrel wouldn't drag him off too much of a distance, just closer to the water. Ellingham could fetch any herbs for him, he had already called the owl and hopefully he wouldn't take too long to get here or else perhaps he would have to drag Aslan or someone away from the rest of the group to go and get something.

Fortunately the alpha followed without question and once they were far enough out of the way Sorrel came to a stop, once more turning his mismatched gaze to his uncle as the strangely authoritative tone, the one of a particularly stern healer, rang out once more. "Lie down, on your good side." He ordered, wasn't much good him lying upon the wounded side after all. They needed to put some pressure on that wound and stop it from bleeding so much.

Ellingham would arrive sharply, clearly a little shocked by the state of Frith, gaze wishing to linger upon the wounded Author though forcing themselves to look towards Sorrel, an almost expectant look upon his face. "Yarrow and meadowsweet." Sorrel informed his companion, used to the wolf's blunt manner Ellingham wouldn't question anything and took off without another word. The two were rather common and he was sure that Sorrel had been sure to stock some in each of the little herb stocks that the boy had around Threar.

Frith only had minimal training in field medicine though he did see the advantage in not moving with such a wound. The fact that it had not yet closed was alarming, but he'd been quite active up to that point. No wonder the wound hadn't closed yet. As he walked he realized the toll the wound had taken on him. As they left the other wolves he would begin to pant heavily, exhaustion beginning it's journey to his door. He didn't realize he could be so thankful for Sorrel to stop, as he was given another order he was hardly going to fight against it.

Frith would flop down on his side, the wound on the other side very much exposed now. He'd find his gaze linger on the hole in his side, it was ugly by now. Dirt mixed with blood and fur, Sorrel certainly had his work cut out for him. Before he knew it Sorrel's companion was there with them, not that he lingered for very long. It sounded as though he was off to gather a couple of herbs. Frith would watch the bird disappear, his dual colored eyes back to his nephew. "So what do you think, doctor? Will I live?" He'd cringe at the words, the pain in his side only rising as he spoke.

Sorrel Destruction-Gringoire

Now that Frith had stopped and settled upon the ground, Sorrel could get a decent look at the wound. He'd hoped to try and stop the bleeding promptly though somehow Frith had managed to get dirt in it already, if the wound healed with all that rubbish inside then they ran the risk of him getting an infection. "You'd better." Was the only response that Sorrel had to the Author's attempt of a joke. He didn't want a patient dying on his watch and he dreaded to think what the loss of Frith might do for the pack.

With no other word suddenly Sorrel took off for the water, dipping his nose under he attempted to get the biggest mouthful he could before hurrying back to Frith and releasing it over the wound, hoping the trickle would wash away most of the dirt and blood so he could get a better look. Lowing the injury into the stream would have been the better option of course though he didn't think he'd be able to drag the Author over there nor was it probably a good idea for him to move anymore.

Licking the wound, he sought to ensure he'd cleared the rest of the dirt from it. The actions dislodged any clots that may have begun to form of course though once satisfied he placed a paw firmly over the wound and applied pressure to it. Now it was a waiting game, for Ellingham to return and for the blood flow to slow. "Are you still awake?" He questioned abruptly, wasn't the greatest idea for him to sleep just yet and he'd use what little conversational skills he possessed to keep the alpha concious now.

The answer that he'd get to his question made him worry a bit more than he had earlier, he'd been completely in jest when he'd made the comment but the way Sorrel answered him. Now he was doubting his safety a little more. He'd narrow his gaze as he watched Sorrel, his mood much more somber as he watched the boy work. He really had brushed with death today, what if the creature had gored him somewhere vital? He could have easily been killed. Yet here he was, joking about his own mortality. Not that he would doubt Sorrel's aptitude for his art, he was eager to see the boy's skills. Sucks he had to be the one whose life depended on those skills. Ah well, better he than his wife or children.

Sorrel would leave him suddenly, slightly alarmed Frith would try to watch him, but the alpha could feel his weakness. He'd sigh having difficulties keeping his head lifted from his paws. He knew it would be better if he kept himself awake though. There would be plenty of time to sleep once he got back to the den. He'd be able to crash and totally skip the worried frettings and scoldings of his wife. He'd been gored by a one horned goat. What kind of loser was he? Frith would chuckle to himself softly as Sorrel returned.

The boy would clean his wound first with a mouth full of water, which wasn't so bad. However when his tongue lashed at the laceration there was an incredible burn. Frith would hiss, closing his eyes in pain but he wouldn't move. "I might have been sleeping before you cleaned the thing out. That hurt." It had to be done though, he knew the effects of infection and he did not want that.

"Well don't sleep yet." Sorrel responded, ignoring any flinches of pain as he cleaned and put pressure on the wound, he focussed purely on doing his job. He'd deal with the pain shortly when Ellingham returned with the herbs and if the Author needed something stronger then he'd go out and search for it later for now they just needed to stop that bleeding and keep the wound clean. He'd probably need to apply something to cover the wound as well, keep it clean and help it clot. Ellingham needed to come back first though.

There was the owl now at last, with the plants held within his talons dropping them to the ground beside the pair before landing himself. Sorrel glanced over at them with approval. "Can you give him the plants?" He requested, not wanting to remove the pressure from the wound just yet. Ellingham did as he was told, picking up the dosage of the plants and dropping them by Frith's mouth. "Eat those." Sorrel informed the Author, Ellingham however chose to offer just a little more information. "This one will help slow the bleeding and that one is for the pain."

He would be instructed that he was not allowed to sleep yet, not that there was any way that Frith was going to be dozing off with the pressure put on his wound. He might have been tired, but he wasn't passing out yet. Though the ordeal wasn't over the little owl would return to them, he was quite the useful little creature wasn't he? Even if Sorrel didn't exactly appreciate him at the beginning he could see the partnership between them as well as the support he brought to the pack.

There was a quick verbal request and the owl was there to offer him the plants he had gathered. They looked slightly familiar, but it had been a very long time since he'd suffered such a wound. They both were necessary though, and he was eager to be rid of his pain. That would help put him to sleep. Without hesitation the Author would take them, chewing them quickly before swallowing. "Bitter things aren't they? How long until I'll be back in the den?" He'd ask because their time was limited, his strength was zapped.

Sorrel Destruction-Gringoire

Ellingham would handle the more friendly part of patient care though of course the owl wasn't there all the time nor was Sorrel sure everyone would actually appreciate him anyway not that he was even fully aware that it'd probably do him well to be a little nicer to those in his care or even just those around him in general. It wouldn't take too much effort to encourage Frith to eat the herbs though he would comment on the taste. It wasn't the nicest thing in the world but he'd told Aslan to save something for Frith from the hunt (the boy probably would have done so anyway to be honest) that'd get rid of the taste not to mention give him some needed strength.

"Ellingham, further downstream I think there is some watercress growing, I don't think it's the nicest of strands but it'll have to do. Get as much as you can." Frith wouldn't be eating that anyway, Sorrel just needed some to crush into a paste to held slow the bleeding and keep infection out of the wound. He'd address Frith's question though otherwise wait in silence. "Got to at least slow this bleeding first." Sorrel told him. The movement to the den probably wouldn't do him much good, though maybe Aslan could help in some manner, he wasn't quite large enough to carry the other man of course though his could support his father far better than Sorrel could.

The little extra time in waiting for the bird to return gave him longer to keep that pressure applied as well, hopefully it was working though he wouldn't check until Ellingham was back with the watercress. It took longer than the trip to fetch the yarrow and meadowsweet but at last the owl was returning with a bunch of plants again, perhaps not quite as much as Sorrel would have really liked though it wasn't the easiest of things for the owl to pick.

Sorrel set to work anyway, he'd get some more later along with more painkillers for the Author but for now this would have to do. Finally removing his paw from the wound, Sorrel began to chew the watercress, lowering his head to the wound to start applying the paste, ensuring of course that the actual hole had the thickest layer upon it. He would have liked to have applied more though perhaps it was best that they finally let the man have his dinner. He gave a call for Aslan to come and fixed his gaze upon Frith.

"Not yet." He informed the man, guessing that he'd be wondering if it was time to head back to his den now. The watercress plaster was still too fresh as well, that would have to set a little before he could move. Ideally probably would have been a good idea for the Author to stay here and rest rest but in the heat of the Summer sun, it probably was best for him to get into some shade.

round here the sky's a little closer a little closer to the ground

Aslan had definitely been worried about his father, caught up in the moment and the scent of blood from the kill masking Frith's own injury it had taken him a few moments to realise that the man was hurt. Sorrel had shifted from awkward hunter to a healer on a mission in the blink of an eye, issuing commands for Frith to follow him and the rest of the group to stay. Perhaps it was shock that kept them in place, the boy barely spoke and suddenly was giving orders.

Dinner hadn't quite seemed like the greatest of plans after that, no one really quite certain how bad the wound actually was. Aslan had still taken a large chunk of the kill to save for his father though, leaving it to one side for him. It felt like it had taken far too long but at last there would be a call for him specifically to bring the food. Truth be told he was shocked, would have suspected Sorrel to ask for FĂ©licien or something but his cousin was full of surprises today it seemed.

Eager to see how his father was he wasted no time in grabbing the food and quickly moving to Sorrel's side. He dropped the meat swiftly, eager to speak "Are you ok?" Mismatched eyes looked to his father and then back up to Sorrel for the healer's viewpoint, something told him that whatever came out of Sorrel's mouth would be more truthful than his father's response.

The owl and the wolf would converse as Sorrel kept pressure on his wound. There was a dull ache there now, it had stopped stinging though he was sure that he was going to be sore for quite some time in the future. His question would be ignored for now, Ellingham had to fly off once more for the last ingredient. Frith was about ready to pass out though, just as he was afraid that Sorrel had forgotten his question (and had been quite rough with the wound but he'd kept himself quiet.) A call for his son would be issued as Sorrel finally gave him an answer, not quite yet. He just had to hold out a bit longer.

Frith would wait with his nephew as Alsen brought himself near, a bit of the goat that had gored him in his jaws. There was an odd sense of satisfaction he'd feel as the sight of the hairy piece of meat. Though he'd not been gotten with out blood payment Frith felt the injury was certainly worth the pain. "No worries I will live." He'd assure his son as he couldn't help but to take a mouthful of the meal offered.

Sorrel Destruction-Gringoire

It wouldn't take too long for his large cousin to appear, honestly even Sorrel wouldn't have been surprised to find him stood lurking, far away enough that he wouldn't interfere but temptingly close enough that he could, as he had done, be here for Frith very swiftly. Connections to family he could understand believe it or not, though the idea of Aslan acting in such a manner made no sense; it didn't help Frith out at all.

It seemed that there was no need to point out to the Author that the meat was for him, eagerly he began to tuck in whilst reassuring his son that he'd be fine. Sorrel simply gave a small nod of confirmation for the tall boy who, perhaps cleverly wouldn't only take the patient's words. "Try not to move too much." Sorrel told him. "Once you get back to your den just rest." He'd probably check on him later, with more watercress and perhaps something for the pain just in case but for now there was little more for the healer to do. "When you help him, walk him carefully. Slow, small steps." Just a final word of caution for Aslan.

With that the healer would leave the pair to get on with things, setting off perhaps to grab a piece of the kill for himself though only if it was clear; he didn't quite fancy an onslaught of questions in regards to the Author's health.

Frith didn't seem to be quite so worried, though Aslan himself wasn't quite so easily sated by the Author's words. Sorrel and his quiet manner didn't help too much though the small nod and the healer's final instructions before setting off were good signs. He doubted that even Sorrel would just walk away from a patient like that if there was anything more he needed to do, certainly not when that patient was family and the Author of the pack.

In silence he would let his father eat and rest. The boy was there ready to help though the moment that Frith decided it was time to move. Sorrel seemed to think he'd need a little support for that task, not that Aslan would have just taken off and left him right here alone anyway. He'd probably calm down better himself once his father was in his den and resting, not to mention once those nerves from the whole incident had finally subsided.

Frith wouldn't wait for the signal to start eating, not that he would feel any kind of rude about it either. He deserved this chunk of the meal, he'd bled over that catch he deserved every bite. He didn't feel offended that his son sought out a second opinion to his doctor, he probably would have done the same thing. Frith thought himself quite sound, but the reality could have been a lot different. He wasn't quite out of the water yet, there was still a small chance of infection. Not that he had any doubts of Sorrel's ability.

He would perk his ears in his nephews direction as he offered his prescription. Frith really needed to take it easy and rest once he'd made it back. Though he decided he wasn't going to sit around for very long, with one last note to his son Sorrel would be off. "Thank you!" the chocolate man would call after the boy, mouth still filled with food as he looked back to Aslan. "Ready to scare your mother?" He had no idea how his wife would react to his injury.
