He was learning Italian at a quick rate, something that he hadn't before been sure he could do. The first time he had heard the words he had stumbled along, unable to really pronounce or remember the definitions. But his young, growing mind had quickly caught on. It wasn't to say he was fluent by any means, and his dialect could sure use work, but he knew a great deal of words that were useful to him. And by that, he meant herbs. He was starting to know both the english and the italian names for all the herbs in his own personal store. His knowledge of healing, as well, was starting to grow larger and larger by the day. Harmony had taught him the basics, that big healing meeting had taught him more, but Starling learned a lot of it in his young life through trial and error. It saddened him that he had missed Abaven's own healing lessons to attend the fighting (which hadn't gone nearly as well as Starling had hoped) but regardless...he was still learning. His father seemed to be around a lot more these days as well. So, Starling decided, he'd have some fun. Collecting some of the basics, his horsetail, agrimony, alfalfa and fumitory (found either in their claimed territories, or around it) he'd call for his father. "Padre! Tempo lezione!" He'd call with a laugh, knowing that's how his father had called them. He wanted to teach, and not be taught, and he wondered if his father knew what each of the herbs did. They were, after all, right at his finger tips. "Burn Baby Burn" "Italian" |

He was lounging in his forever favorite spot, upon the top of the flattened rock that made up the roof of their den. When Starling called out of him, telling him it was time to learn. Ears fluttered and pinned back to his head, eyes rolling as he ducked his head under his legs. He didn't like herbs, and he didn't want his own kid to teach him about it. There was no shame in it, he found it adorable, but herbs? Really? Ick. That was more Harmony and Rhythm's department, Motif and Bass were the fighters. And Chord... he actually wasn't quite sure. A mediator, perhaps. Tail thumped on the flat rock as he peeked over his legs, picking out his brown and white form. Well, there was no use in hiding when Starling was so close, he had probably already seen his pale form against the gray rock. Wiggling towards the back of the rock, he rose his head and shook it. "No grazie!" he called with a laugh, trying to duck out of the training.

Starling was excited, happy even...untill he heard his father's voice from atop their den. Ears pulled back as he stared up at his father, a puppy pout instantly pulling at his features. He didn't want to learn? Why not! "Ma papà ~!" He whined, pawing at his dried horsetail plant before he sighed and sat down. They weren't so far away, Starling's store of herbs were never too far from his den. He had dug a little hole for them beneath some undergrowth near their den, and they had been safe there so far. He had to be wary of snakes though, but now that it was cooling down, he wasn't too worried. It was in the spring, when they were all ready to make snake babies, that he had to defend his store. But that's beside the point. "I-it c-could save...your life Dad! Wh-what would h-happen if..if you're h-hurt...and no one is...is there to heal you! Wh-what if I'm n-not there.." He whined, truley concerned. Everyone should have basic understanding of wound healing, even if it's just a patch job untill they can get some treatment. "I-I tried fighting...p-please try this.." His voice was small as he continued to fidget with the horsetail plant, his body hunched just slightly. "Burn Baby Burn" "Italian" |

His damn little puppy face was so adorable, and it nearly made his heart melt in his chest. He whined and pawed at the horsetail at his feet. Bass' ears hugged close to this skull at he scooted forward, eyes looking over the lip of the ledge. When Starling went on to explain that it could be a good use of his time to learn how to heal himself, how to take care of him. He hummed softly, leaping off the rock to lick the top of Starling's head. "Fate un argomento forte, figlio. Va bene, si può insegnare a me le vostre erbe." He said with a sigh, pulling himself to his rump in front of the boy. "This is your lesson Starling, I will listen and learn, I promise. And... thank you for your concern Starling." He knew that he worried his family and pack, it would seem that he was always coming home hurt. Perhaps learning a little bit of herbs wouldn't be so bad, after all. And he was right, Starling had tried fighting just for him. Bass had been very shocked to see him show up.

The second his father leapt from his perch, Starling looked up, sky blue eyes staring at him. A small smile rose upon his lips as he heard his father's fluent italian. Sure, Starling wasn't fluent himself in speaking, but he could understand it just fine. It was rather easy, wasn't it? Or was that just him. With a bright smile he nodded then. "Grazie, papà" He said with a happy smile. Quickly looking back down at his herbs he wondered just how to go about this. He knew them rather well. "All these grow in our lands, or the Thicket and the Bay.." He said softly, gesturing to his four herbs he had selected. "They're good to know, especially since they're handy." His stuttering seemed to be gone as he focused on his craft, quickly seperating the dried horse tail from the pile. "Horsetail, or equiseto in Italian. It grows in the Rapids or generally around water...you saw me with one before." He said with a smile, looking up at him. "If you chew it, it can be a paste for open wounds. It stops bleeding and allows binding to begin a lot quicker. It's great for fights... and if you eat it, it helps bladder and kidneys...you know, incase of some sorta infection..." He smiled up at him then. "È importante! Capisci?" He asked with a grin, not wanting to go on unless Bass knew for sure what it meant. It was probably one of the more vital herbs, especially for fighters. It was good for open wounds. "Burn Baby Burn" "Italian" |

The pout soon faded as soon as Bass agreed, and he couldn't help but shake his head. He was a smart one, little Starling. Tricking his father into all of this. The kid stood on a pretty solid argument though, he had to admit. It wasn't like Bass was super extra careful, he often came home with many bumps and bruises. So, a lesson would probably be good for him. Bass picked up the fact that Star wasn't stuttering as he talked about his herbs, his head nodding along as the young boy spoke. It would seem that they captivated his interest, made him feel stronger. He knew about horsetail, that had been one that Harmony had shown him before too, and one that was brought up at the massive healer training that he held a long time ago. Man, that had been just after meeting Wren too... Shaking his head, he focused on Starling, who was still going on about the four plants in front of his paws. "Sì, figliolo. La vostra zia ha insegnato essere su questo molto tempo fa." He said softly, bending down to sniff at the feather like stalk. "It does taste funny though." He commented softly, his nose wrinkling up at his golden eyes met Star. He was very stubborn when it came to taking herbs, to the point where Harmony was basically shoving them down his throat. He was glad to see that none of his children seemed to have that trait, except maybe Lark. He could see the strong boy turning his nose up at the healing plants as well.
