Nothing and Everything has changed

((Note: Due to Eevee's absence and the importance of this thread for Serefina, she has written a few parts of this post for me to post...with my post. She wrote the Serefina parts, I'm just posting them for her, to give IC reason as to why Serefina isn't around. Any PP has been approved by the players. )) Glacier Glacier Glacier Glacier! It was all through his panicked mind, it echoed in his heart. Ever since the moment he stepped foot on the island and saw...them. Glacier Glacier. He had to get home, he needed his big brother. He needed to feel his warmth, needed to know everything was okay. Glacier Glacier... Well, it wasn't necessarily like anything changed. They had been abandoned, rejected, banished...so in essance they could all be considered parentless right? So why did his chest hurt so much? It felt so strong, so stiffling. He could barely breathe, and yet he'd move speadily the moment their paws hit the shore of Alacritis. Everything hurt, everything ached, and he needed his brother. He had never felt such pain, such anger, such sadness. His eyes would continuously threaten to spill, his jaw would continuously clench, and he'd move as quickly as he could without leaving Gaia and their new friend too far behind. On their way to the island Voltage and his ever impressive charm had managed to easily win over a new friend, who had accompanied them on the remaining bit of their journey. She had been a healer, she said, and he instantly jumped on the opportunity to bring her home to train Terrae. If he didn't have any siblings to bring home it would be good to at least bring home a tutor. So he had happily asked her to come along, to finish the trip and and then come home to Donostrea for a while. But it seemed she would be of a different sort of use. Glacier! He padded through the rocks towards home, forcing himself to slow down so Gaia and Orchid could keep up, but he needed to get home...he needed to get home right now. The ache in his chest continued to bloom, and he felt so lost. He needed his brother, needed to know the earth wasn't about to fall from under his paws. The moment they had stepped foot on the island it had felt eeriely quiet, the wind even refused to blow. He had felt as if the entire world had fallen away, and for a moment he had blamed it on the fact that he hated this place, and the people that inhabited it. But then he ventured along, finding the den his parents had owned, and time instantly stopped. Tears had instantly welled up in his gaze, and his chest felt tight. His parents...the ones he hated...the ones that were to blame for all their anger and their strife... Orchid had taken it upon herself to examine the bodies...and deemed it murder. Glacier...glacier. He whimpered as he saw the volcano in view, brows furrowed as he moved as quickly as he could. He knew Gaia was fine, Freewing would watch her steps. He needed to get home, to the safety of his beach, to the place where everything was right. He needed to tell Glacier...Glacier, Glacier. A sob broke from his throat when he saw her, sitting and waiting for him to arrive. The snow had melted, spring on the air, and he knew that he had to tell her. The moment he was withing talking distance of his firey sister he would pull her into his warmth, and it would be her that he told first. Their parents...were dead. Serefina: She had been waiting for him the moment the air had changed. Her eyes had sprung open and she raced out of their cave, making her way to the volcano that she once called her own. And she waited, for a full two days she sat awake and waited for him to show up. And on that third day, he finally arrived. Her ears pulled forward as her heart pounded in her chest, feeling almost painful as she stood up on her shaky legs. Serefina cared for nothing else but to get to her dear brothers side, all over feelings tossed aside as she longed for his touch. But as she drew nearer to him, she saw the tears on his face. "Voltage? What's wrong?" she asked breathlessly. Letting out a whine she frowned and pushed against him, breathing in his scent. Her legs wobbled as she fought to keep herself up on her four paws, exhaustion threatening to pull her down. But no, he was here, he was finally here. At last she could relax, could slip into her cycle once again. But he was upset... and she needed to know why. Voltage: "Gone..." He whispered into her fur the moment she pressed into him. His voice hurt from the speed he had moved, his eyes burned. "Sere, they're gone. Orchid...said it wasn't...natural" He couldnt do this, he couldnt pass on the bad news. He needed his big brother to ground him. Everything felt so hot and he couldn't control it. Tears would slip down his cheek as he hid his face in the fluff of her fur. "I found them, Sere. No...no siblings, but...they were dead, Sere...gone." And with them...their only chance at answers. Serefina: Confusion filled her when he spoke. Gone. Who is gone? She pulled back slightly, a delicate brow raising. She opened her mouth to speak again when he spoke again, about it not being natural, finding them -- no. They... no! Her head shook feriously as she took a step back, tears forming in her eyes. They couldn't be dead. Not that she had not been mad at them, she had hated them for making Voltage leave her. It had torn her in half, but now that they were gone. She whined, and it soon turn into a growl. Ears pinned back as her lips curled, anger easily replacing the sorrow. She disliked being sad, and it was so quick for the red hot tendrils of anger flared through her. ""You're lying!" she called, backing up even further as the hot tears flowed freely down her face. ""I don't believe you!" and then, in a classic Serefina move, she spun around and took off. She could hear his voice call after him, but she didn't care. She didn't believe him, not at all! They couldn't be dead. But he had been crying... No! She wouldn't believe it. She couldn't! So without even a glance back she raced as fast as her legs could take her, not planning on coming back any time soon. She had to see this for herself. She had to see her dead parents. Voltage: Pain shot through his heart the moment she slipped from his fingers, his eyes grew so wide as she bounded off. And for a moment he was so frozen in place, unable to follow her. He knew what she would see there, he knew the pain she would feel but there was no way he could follow. It didn't stop him from calling her name, hoping that she would come back, hoping she would hear the pain in his voice...but it didn't work... Conflicted and torn apart, he'd turn away from the way she ran, towards the way he needed to go. Voltage would have laid his life down for Serefina, but he knew in this moment she had to see it for herself. She had to see their parents and had to feel better somehow, whether it was by vengence or...wrecking something. He's clench his jaw to keep the pain inside, turning quickly towards the beach. He needed Glacier, he needed his big brother. But he froze, quickly looking back at Gaia and Orchid. He felt terrible, but he hoped they'd understand. "I....I have to get home." He said, his voice pitched and tight. Emotion flooded him, hurting him terribly. "Please...I'll meet you there. I just...I have to get home." He wouldn't wait, hoped that Gaia would forgive him. He'd quickly step towards her, placing a kiss on her skull if she'd let him before turning swiftly. He'd bolt, run, his paws barely able to hit the ground with each step. Tears would bubble before slipping down his cheek without permission as he ate away the distance. Everything hurt, everything ached, and he needed Glacier. The moment his paws crossed the border and onto black sand he would bark, cry for his brother. The silence that had been there since he left was suddenly disrupted, destroyed. "Glacier Glacier Glacier Glacier!!" He called, he begged, he needed his brother. He needed Glacier, he needed his brother... "Burn Baby Burn" |

It would be a day like any other, slow as he left the warmth of anais's side and did his usual rounds across the border. Quite as he padded along the beach and checked up on his siblings, catching fresh tracks and scents that told him all was well even if he didn't catch sight of the actual figures of his siblings. The only scent truly stale was Sere's, he had been leaving her food on a regular bases and knew the moment she had left for her sunnier volcano -which was also a stopping point between here and their old island and he knew she would likely stay there until voltage returned to them. Thoughts of his one and only litter mate would bring lestelga and he tried not to dwell. Instead he would make his way towards the cliff much loved by the star related siblings, in search of some quite company.
He wouldn't make it the full way there, as he entered the cave he would hear a voice, so familiar calling out to him. At first he would feel elation, pride, and a giddy relief that all would last but a moment before he realized the panic he was hearing in his brothers tone. Already turning in his efforts to make his way to his brother he would pick it up and turn it into an unstoppable break - necking run back to voltage. He ran like the devil was after him, or a more accurate description to fit glacier - like voltages life depended on it. He would be forced to skirt and began to stop when he saw his brother, least he keep on running and never stop. As his pace slowed to an more manageable one he would reach voltage and envelope him into an hug. First he would see there was no gaia and immediately he would think the worst. "Voltage, voltage! What's wrong, tell me!" He demanded, already started to move in the direction voltage had come, half dragging voltage with him. If someone had touched voltages mate he would rip them limb from limb.

The moment he saw his brother he would run faster, his paws digging into the sand as he moved. He didn't have the stamina for this, his lungs hurt with each ragged breath and yet his energy would quickly refill again, allowing him random bursts of speed when he needed it. This was one of those times, and he'd bolt towards his brother like the element he was named for. The moment he was folded into his brother's warmth he just broke down, sobbing into his fur as all the emotion he had been holding since the moment he had seen...them. Pain pulsated through him as he heard Glacier's voice, a voice he had needed in the past few days. But when he felt Glacier begin to pull them in the direction they came he quickly shook his head. "T-They're coming." He said with a gasp, trying to catch his breath before he could explain. He opened his mouth but instead he merely sobbed, wrapping a leg around his brother and holding him close. "G-glace." He whimpered, looking up at him with reddened, teary yellow eyes. "Our p-parents, Glace. They're gone!" He said in a choked voice, staring up at him. His jaw clenched to try and keep the sobs in. He needed to explain, he needed Glacier to ground him. He needed...to feel alright again. "D-dead, Glace...our parents..." He whimpered in a quiet voice, closing his eyes tightly. For a long time Voltage had hated his parents, had hated everything they had done to him and his siblings. He had felt nothing but anger and loss and a desperation for answers. Answers he'd never recieve now. And even if he did hate his parents, they were still family, and it reminded him clearly of how mortal they all were. This could happen to his siblings. And now...now there was no chance for answers or to mend what had been broken. They were fully alone in this world. There would be no new siblings...they were orphaned. He felt...like he had, the day he and Glace had been abandoned, only there was absolutely no way he could feel any optimism, or any hope their parents would change their mind and welcome them back. They were gone...forever. "Burn Baby Burn" |

Voltage would fight him as he attempted to go back the way his brother had come. Glacier wouldn't be deterred, hesitating only when voltage told him they where coming. Glacier's heart was hammering, who was coming? What threat was donostrea about to face? His brother was making no sense and glacier stopped his attempts to pull his brother, knowing he would get no answer until he calmed him, then and only then could glacier get to the bottom of this. Voltage would sob and glacier would hold him close "shhh" he soothed to voltages hysteria. When voltage did finally speak, the words would chill the giant to the bone. The titans eyes would glaze over and he would go stiff in voltages arms. He always did things slow and steady, felt things slowly where voltage when through a hundred emotions to glaciers one. In that moment, it was all the alpha could do to process the pain as he stood there and attempted to realign his thoughts to this new idea.
No longer did he attempt action, it was quite clear that there was nothing he could do nor was there and physical enemy he could vanquish. Glacier had never hated their parents, he had felt pity and sadness and yes a touch of anger but more for the pain they had caused voltage then for any cause of his own. He had always believed that there was a reason for what their parents did, a reason he would now never know. There was still no reaction from the giant as his thought process slowly chewed his way through it, and it was only the sound of voltages sobbing that slowly began to thaw him. He moved with mechanically alow movements to draw voltage in closer, to push his brothers head into the safety of glaciers neck, his only reaction to protect voltage before he spoke. His voice was oddly calm, and terribly empty when he spoke "how?" And that was it, one single word, a single syllable spoken with no emotion, no trace of life.

He knew this would be Glacier's reaction, and it helped counterbalance the way he felt. It was directly opposite to what he was, and it was what he needed. Where as he and Serefina were alike, and they reacted similarily, and they fueled each others fire. It was counter productive, which was why it hadn't been his sister's name on his mind, nor any of his other siblings. It was always and only Glacier. The way he calmly accepted everything allowed Voltage to focus and handle his emotions while listening to the ever strong and organized thoughts of Glacier. And he breathed in deeply, trying his hardest to catch his breath and to calm his sobs, listening to Glacier's smooth voice sooth him, feeling him pull Volty's smaller form into his. And he cried, allowing all his disappointment, and loss, and pain to flood from him in choked sobs and tears. But then he heard that one simple word that practically commanded an answer, even if Glacier didn't put any power behind it. He lifted his gaze, unable to see Glace's eyes from how close he was to him. So he sighed, holding his breath to try and keep his sobs in, to gain his voice back. "O-orchid...said they...th-they were...murdered." He whispered, choking on the word. He failed to tell Glacier who Orchid was, those details could come later. Right now they had far too much to deal with, namely Volty's inability to gather himself. "S-sere...she was uhm.." He whimpered. "O-on the Volcano...I told her. Glace...She...said I was lying and she ran." It hurt, that his sister had bolted, had run from him, but he knew just how she felt. She knew she would need to see it with her own eyes. "She went to see for herself. I...I couldn't stop her...." He winced, closing his eyes tightly, expecting his brother to be mad. Serefina could more than handle herself, which is why Voltage hadn't chosen to chase after her...but that didn't stop him from wishing she would come back. "Burn Baby Burn" |

Voltage sobbed hard and freely into his stiff shoulder, as one of glaciers paws moved to place gently against his brothers back, holding voltage to him and creating a bubble of safety and security around them. It was the only move that showed he was still alive in there, capable of emotion and thought and warmth despite the icy exterior that had settled over the giant. To glaciers single word, voltage would drop many. A jumble of words, stammered and pushed out past his tears. Glacier didn't lesson or move his grip from voltage, but a single tremor would run the course of his body in response to voltages explanation. He had no idea who orchid was but could only conclude this orchid was a party to the 'we' voltage had originally spoken of.
He had forgotten about sere in light of these words, but his conclusion would prove right as voltage mentioned their sister. She had indeed been at the volcano waiting for voltage, and he would flinch as voltage mentioned their fiery sister running off in search of their murdered parents. His first reaction was to run after her, they didn't know why had happened and if the danger was still out there. He stifled the urge, knowing with the lead the fire girl had on him there was nothing he could do he could arrive only at the conclusion of what might go down there. His only use now could be here with voltage, his brother, all of their siblings, would need him. His lip pulled, another miniscule reaction to voltages title wave to show a fierce, burning anger. "Who." It would be the only word he could force past the ice that had formed around him. That had formed between himself and his heart, blocked him off from the outside world. His best guess was that voltage didn't know who but if there was even the slightest touch more insight he could gather he would reach for it. His breathing would be rhythmic and steady, his face hard and unyielding but his eyes, his eyes where fire. Voltage spoke of foul play, of murder that meant this was no tragic accident but that this had been done to them. Glacier vowed he would get to the bottom of it, it might well take him years, but that was the difference between a cold anger and a hot one, it wouldn't weaken over the ageas, he had time to wait and learn.
If voltage thought at ll that the coldness emitting from glacier was stronger and more stifling then ever seen before, or that the fire in his eyes burned too hot, or his single, emotionless words too distance, he gave no sign.

His chest was tight, and on fire. But slowly and surely he managed to slowly catch his breath and all that was left was to just...quit crying. It was hard, perhaps it was the shock of it all. Perhaps it was the days of holding it in, trying to keep moving so he could make it back to Glacier. Perhaps it was a mix of it all, of all the sadness and the shock and just the...relief to be back home where everything made sense. But it seemed his brother wouldn't take the news with tears, or even the level headedness he was used too. There was nothing...it was cold. It helped him calm down even quicker, not that he liked it. Stormy eyes would open again at the icy word, and he'd quickly pull away from his brother's strong grip. He'd stare up at him, hiccuping and gasping at times as his overworked lungs continued to try to get back to a normal rhythm. Stormy gaze would search his brother's icy ones, and he'd swallow gently before he'd move to speak again. "Th-they were dead...for a while.." He whimpered, looking down at the ground before he moved to stand again. He'd push his forehead against his brother's chest, eyes closed again. He wouldn't say anything else, just allowing himself to soak in his brother's warmth. "God, I needed you..." He breathed. "P-please, don't freeze up on me, Glace....I d-don't know how to handle this..." "Burn Baby Burn" |

Voltage would pull away from him and glacier would tighten his grip once in a hug before letting go. His brother was calming down, his sobs turning to hiccups. Voltage's eyes would look up to met his own, and glaciers harsh glare would soften in the light of his brothers open, sad gaze. He would see the red rimmed irises from the salty tears his brother had cried. Glacier would instantly regret his question as it forced voltage to re live the moment and his brother would offer more details. Glacier could take hearing it, he just wished he hadn't made his brother speak them. He was wondering why he had ever let his brother go without him and wishing he had been there to shield his littermate from it. Thoughts of Voltage, and his pain, grounded glacier and brought him further from the dead chill that accompanied any thought of their parents fate.
Voltage's reaction to glaciers ice was shocking and glacier reached out for his brother again. "Shh, I'm right here" he promised him. He took a deep breath, burying the cold rage, knowing it would simmer in his heart and be there for him to dwell on later. He knew it would never die,no not until he got answers but he also know he could wait and plan on how to gain them. Right here, and in the moment, voltage needed him and that was the only thing that mattered. "You did the right thing, nothing in the early can stop sere when she makes up her mind. Why don't you start by explaining to me who orchid is?" He asked, giving his brother a distraction.

He would nod slightly, which was rather difficult when you had your forehead pressed against something, but somehow he managed something like a nodding motion. Glacier was here, he was always here, and nothing in heaven, hell or earth could manage to tear his icy brother away from him. Not for too long anyways. They seem to have the common knowledge that if one were to go, the other wouldn't be too far behind. It was morbid, but they had always been together. And he'd pull his head away to look at the distance, to take in the horizon and breathe in his home's scents. His family was all here, everyone...except for Sere. And he'd sigh softly, lowering his head so he could rub at his eyes with his paws, all while still in the ever loving embrace of his brother. "S-sere...will come home." He said, as if promising himself over Glacier. "When she's ready." He'd nod slowly, knowing his sister just needed to see it for herself. She'd probably go on some vigilante mission, but Voltage hoped that whoever had done...that to their parents didn't extend the wish to do so to him and his siblings. When Glacier asked who Orchid was, Voltage couldn't help a sad, small laugh from bubbling up. He'd scratch at his eye slightly before sniffling. "Orchid is um.." He'd smile softly, trying to keep it all down. It didn't do him well to cry. It was spring, he was now five....holy crap he was old! Too old to cry. "Terrae's new teacher." He'd grin then, toothy but not quite holding the energy behind it that it usually had. "We met her before we got to the island. She's really good at healing, and she seems sweet." He'd say with a nod, looking out at the horizon. "I'm ah...glad to see the place didn't burn down. Anything...anything new?" He asked softly, looking back up at Glacier. "Burn Baby Burn" |

Glacier did wonder if voltage had buried their parents, given them a resting place and a marker to be remembered by, but it was too morbid a thought to bring up and he wanted now only to help his brother, his reason for breathing. The titan would find out all those answers for himself somewhere along the line. Voltage would vow sere would return and glacier could only nod. Who knew what trouble their fiery sister was getting up to, they just had to believe she was strong enough to bring herself back from it. Glacier would speak nothing of his own vengeful thoughts, well it would be voltages right to know, it was not the moment to speak them.
His attempt to distract voltage would actually alicit a smile and even a hint of the bright lightning he knew was inside his brother, buried for the moment but not forgotten. One side of glaciers mouth lifted in amusement, a skeptical smile "Terrae's teacher?" He mused allowed, greatfull for the respite from the hollow pit of empty he had felt when voltage had first explained himself.
Voltage would give this orchid a good recommendation and glacier would nod, easily accepting his brothers word. Voltage would attempt a lighter atmosphere also and ask what had been going on in donostrea. "Anais and lior have settled in will, anais is our only wolf in the hunter rank currently" he explained with a half forced chuckle as he brought his mind out of the murky horror. "Arcus is up to something, I think he might have a lady friend" glacier continued, another half smile from glacier as he mentioned the good news - Arcus desperately needed someone in his life. "Otherwise no dramas, they've missed you but they've been fine" he said softly. "I thought of you every single day "

At the question Voltage would nod, turning his head once again to stare out at the ocean. Nothing had really changed...and yet, everything had as well. It felt so weird... "Yeah, I promised Terrae ages ago I would find him a tutor...I finally delivered." He said with a small smile, looking back at his brother. "We need to start having group lessons. Everyone needs to learn to fight, to hunt, to heal...we gotta start being more active on that." He said softly, sniffing once more but finally managing to regain his composure, what little he usually had. He was quick to bounce back, his ability to cycle through emotions so quickly allowed him to move easily from outright sadness so something more controllable. He smiled when Anais was named their only hunter. "We should stick Arcus in there as well....and move Terrae up to PraeTarna." He said then. "With the way he handled you when you fell...he proved himself." He said softly before his ears perked when Glacier said Arcus' name. The storm boy had been very hidden, he had been more than a little surprised when he saw him right before he left. Turning stormy eyes back to his brother he'd tilt his head. "So he does live." He said softly before realizing how improper the joke had to be at this moment. So he'd cough slightly and tilt his head down towards the sand. "I'm glad he seems to be doing more than just...whatever he was doing." He said softly, pausing slightly to look back up at Glacier, a small smile upon his lips. "I counted the moments before I could be home, naturally.." He said softly, a small toothy grin on his lips. "The way home was way faster...cause I basically ran." He laughed weakly, looking down and shaking his head. "If there is one thing this trip taught me...its that I never, ever want to be away from you again." He whispered softly. "Burn Baby Burn" |
