Getting Up

Hiraeth brought his green gaze away from the grisly wounds and instead looked into the woman's eyes as she spoke. Her words elicited a gentle laugh from him, he did not intend to let her hobble her way toward the herbs. He would help her get there, of course. It never ceased to amaze him how careless and cruel some creatures could be. It simply felt natural and right for him to help the poor injured woman, and yet as she spoke he became more aware of her situation, and he was horrified at what he heard. What sort of tyrannous leaders inhabited these lands, who would simply attack someone who did not obey their will? Few things had the power to stir Hiraeth to anger, but unfair leaders often did the trick. "I'm terribly sorry, love," he sighed.
The man then came a bit closer, aligning his body with hers so she could fall against his side if she needed to. His eyes were kind as he looked at her. "Shall we try to walk?" he offered. "My name is Hiraeth, by the way. Sorry for not mentioning it before." He smiled bashfully and stayed close as he took a few experimental steps forward beside Arian, prepared to be her crutch again if she began to fall. |
