Chpt.2 A Soft Touch
His soft words of apology lifted her ears, the woman giving a soft kiss to the underside of his jaw. She knew he was sorry, she knew he was busy. They both were. She with her duties to the pack and he his duties to his other family. She hoped that when the children came, he would see that surreal and her brood weren't the only family to concentrate on. When he stepped back, she straightened up. Her eyes glowing with her new role as a mother to be. "Goodness, Avalon. You're gorgeous like this!" She felt heat rush to her face at the comment, a sheepish smile spreading as he drew close again to lick her nose. "Oh, Newol...I feel like I'm going to explode! I've gotten so big, and I'm only getting bigger!" She playfully complained as she nuzzled his snout once more.
Then all at once his words tumbled out of his mouth. Her tail wagged the more he spoke, a smile spreading as she noted the excitement in his tone, his words comforting some of her worries. She was happy that he would stay by her side, happy that he was happy. "Thank you, Newol. It's so good to hear your voice after all this time!" She took in a deep breath, trying to control the surge of happiness in her. "And that's great Newol, I'd love to meet them someday. I'm so happy for you! And soon, you'll be a father. We'll be parents!" Her own excitement was evident, although she was afraid too. She was going to be a mother...and she'd heard of some having complications during pregnancy, she hoped she wasn't one of them.
But her worry would be quickly washed away, his soothing voice bringing her back to him. To the here and now moment. Her heart leaped for joy, butterflies in her tummy as she whined with happiness. She'd been waiting to hear that for so long, and he'd finally said it. How much happier could she be then at this moment? "Oh Newol, you make me so happy!" She snuggled into him when he embraced her, his form warm and comforting to the touch. She felt safe with him, her doubts washing away for the moment. Amber gaze would find the trinket he had at his feet then, blinking, she pulled back a little as a teasing smile drew across her lips. "What have you got there, my love?" |
