Anthem of the Lonely
It grew colder as the dawn light hung over the lands. Her flow of tears hadn't ceased, and she couldn't remember ever crying like this. In fact, she couldn't remember ever really crying at all. She had never felt pain, and never felt terror or fear. Not until last night. Not until today. Her body shivered with cold and pain, the pitiful bundle of blood and fur bled onto the snow, but she refused to venture out into the world. She gently wiped her face on her brown forepaw, wincing when she did. Of course, that leg was broken. It was stupid to do that!
"W-why...what did I d-do..?" She whispered to nobody in particular, perhaps to herself...perhaps to the unseen heavens. "Are you alright, miss?" Her heart nearly jumped from her chest, startling the girl. Wide eyes peered out of the hollow, dual hued eyes immediately finding the dark red eyes of the stranger. Immediately, she tried to struggle back, those eyes...the crimson eyes! The shadow cat was back! He found her! "N-no! Leave me alone! Not again! please!"
Her voice quickly rose more and more, her terror masking the face of those eyes. The red pair of orbs was all she saw, for the shadow cats own eyes were burned in her memory. She started to cry again, struggling to turn around and find safety in the hollow. Her sticky hackles rose, fear clear in her eyes and movement. Except...it was more then fear. Crimson and white snow churned near her tail and her broken leg, the wooden hollow stained with the blood on her fur. They were coming for her! |
