Even If I Say, It'll Be Alright

She felt hurt. And incredibly so. For days, she'd been hoping that her mate would come and try to see her...but each day that went by, there was no sign of him. He hadn't shown up to the challenge, hadn't shown up to anything since she had borne their children. And now, she was left to fend for them by herself. Something she had feared above all else. Now the children had only one parent...while the other was missing. Her tail hung limp as she walked slowly across the snow, her paws sounding dull in the crisp earth, head low and her ears pinned. What did she do to deserve this?
Her brows furrowed deeply, the happiness she had once felt was gone now. Was she still too naive? Too naive to believe that love existed? She felt played, used, cast aside like yesterday's carcass. It wasn't fair to her. And certainly not to her children. The youngest of them was falling ill, most likely unable to recuperate. It tore at her heart that Newol would do this to them, but she would protect them from the wrongdoings of the world. Protect them from the errors of life as best she could. Stifling a whine, she felt her chest grow rigid. A feeling like ice began to circulate her heart, squeezing it tight in a vice grip of steel and locks. This was it...wasn't it? Before she knew it, her head lifted and she let loose a howl. A song of mourning, of pain, of sorrow. She inwardly wept not for Arian this time, but for herself. |
