As Bass reared up, Vali was able to leap under his reared upper half, ending up on his right side. All of his attacks missed, and he let out a massive growl as his front limbs slammed back on the ground. Quickly he adjusted his weight, spreading it evenly to all four limbs. His toes spread as his claws dug into the muddy ground, legs set an equal distance apart. Ears remained pinned back to his skull, head and tail aligning with his spine as his chin tucked towards his chest. Shoulders rolled forward as his hackles remained ridged, yellow eyes still narrowed into thin slits. His lips curled upwards away from his teeth, bunching more loose skin around his eyes to protect them further. Vali was faster than he could have imagined, and before Bass could turn to face her he felt the sharp bite of her teeth against his right side, along the upper part of his rib cage, just behind his right shoulder. He flinched as her teeth dragged across his skin, tearing into his flesh to leave behind moderate lacerations. She did not achieve a grip on him, and even though he was bleeding freely at least she couldn't do more damage. From all of Vali's movement, her head was pointed at his right shoulder, her rump just to the right of his own. (Diagram provided by Kea : link.) Bass turned his head towards his own right, jaws parting as he attempted to catch Vali's muzzle within his grasp. His top jaw aimed for the mid point of the bridge of her nose, his lower jaw aiming for the underside of her muzzle. Bass tried to gain a solid hold on her mouth, hopefully gaining control of her head as well as temporarily blocking her breathing, as her mouth and nose would be within his mouth. At the same time he shifted his weight to his right side, trying to slam the outer portion of his right shoulder into the left side of her face, trying to hit her eye to stun the girl.
