There was a rush of relief when his pounce landed. Ah ha! He had her! He could beat her at her own game, here in the water. But as he went down, he would see her skillful maneuvering and he lost his senses for a moment as water covered him, and as he coughed, spitting out salty water, she would slip away from him. They where still in the shallow end of the sea and there was plenty enough sand mixed in with his mouth full. He occupied with that and didn't see her own leap coming. Her entire weight went into it, and he could have held ground if he truly tried – but he didn't. He let her knock him over, back into the water. He landed on his stomach, the under half of his body in the water, and he bucked his back in an attempt to throw her off, back into the water. |
