Keeping an eye out

Much sooner than he had anticipated, he heard Riv's howl calling for him. His head lifted to listen with pleasant surprise for a moment before he turned to trot toward the border to meet him. It was still strange to think that Riv had to call for him now and that he no longer lived her. Honestly, Riv was welcome to come and go as he pleased as far as Leo was concerned, but he knew he had to accept that Riv had a pack of his own now. He spotted Riv's larger frame soon enough and his tail wagged behind him, a smile touching his lips. "Riv!" he called cheerfully, trotting up to his nephew and leaning in to press his nose to Riv's cheek. Leo was an affectionate wolf anyway, but he couldn't help himself after seeing one of his family for the first time in a while. "I'm glad I didn't have to wait ages to see you again, nephew," he added with a chuckle as he took a step back to settle on his haunches, his tail still brushing against the ground behind him.
