Peregrine was pleased to find the woman open to poking fun at others. That was always a good first sign! She gave her chocolate coat a light shake, doing her best to dislodge a few bits of debris she'd picked up. The woman claimed they needed it more than she did. Like hell! Anywhere there was anything worth selling off to someone else was somewhere she wanted to be. These borders were a massive inconvenience but it wasn't like she had the balls to cross the border anyways. "Well, thinking of them in that light does make me feel better." She smiled back at the woman's humor, imagining a pack of overly round wolves rolling down a hill in pursuit of a deer. She spared a moment's interest in her bag before turning the same sense of humor on her.
It was mild, but Peregrine could give her points for effort. A sharp laugh forced it's way out from between her lips. "Lazy? I wish! That sounds marvelous. Maybe you're onto something there, perhaps pack life is the life for me. Only problem is I'm not so great at taking direction, it's a fault of mine. And my name is Peregrine, but I'll respond to just about anything that suits you." Her smile widened at the truth of her words. She'd tried joining a number of caravans and hadn't lasted more than half a season with any of them. Clearly they had no taste in traveling companions, and spared a moment wondering how much longer Tsiry would hang on for. On an impulse she offered, "Once my friend returns we'll be heading one way or the other if you'd like to tag along." Wouldn't the lemur just love that?
Believe it or not, she almost didn't notice the massive red wolf who approached them. It took last drop of self control not to burst out laughing at the sight. Sure, she'd seen odd colors on wolves before but this was just overwhelming. Not to mention he was huge! Her eyes widened and it took her a moment to think up a proper greeting (read: thinly veiled insult) for him. Thankfully he filled the silence on his own with an introduction. By that time she was ready, and replied with a smooth, "Peregrine Myre, it's a pleasure. I can already tell you're about to brighten my day! If you must know, I'm waiting for the return of a friend before we make a long, arduous trek around your lands." She flashed him a tight smile, one teetering on the edge of sincerity and impertinence. But oh well, what did she care? It wasn't like she'd crossed any lines, after all. She pitied the guy, if he had nothing better to do than address petty border concerns. She kept her face neutral and expectant to see how he'd react.
