dark interval.

It would seem he had an accidental habit of finding places that would have otherwise been unknown to him. He had been searching for shelter from the unrelenting summer heat when he had stumbled across the tiny cave. The shade he would undoubtedly find below the earth's surface was what had tempted him down here in the first place. Darkness and dirt had never been something he found particularly bothersome. Adrian had merely been expecting to venture in and take shelter, but to his surprise the narrow little cave had continued on, growing larger with each step he took. Blackness had engulfed him for a time, this dark interval forcing him to rely on other senses.
If this was what it was like to be blind, he was not so sure he would be able to bear it. Suddenly he felt quite blessed to have the gift of vision, something he had almost always taken for granted. Were it not for his hopes of possibly finding water down here, he would likely have already turned back. But his dry mouth told him to persist. After what felt like an eternity but was probably not really that long, the darkness was beaten back by a bluish glow. At first he had thought it might have been a break in the cave ceiling which allowed a bit of natural light to filter in. What he had discovered however, was far from what he had expected, and very intriguing, as well as confusing.
Instead of natural light, the source of light he had found was emanating from the multitude of little.. mushrooms which seemed to grow from almost every surface in this cavern. Each and every one of them appeared to emit just a tiny amount of the blue light he had seen earlier. All in all, it was a rather eerie sight, but the glow was also somehow comforting. Out of curiosity he stepped forth, putting his nose as closed as he dared to them. Adrian did not know much about plants and what effect they might have on anyone who ingested them, but he could not imagine anything that glowed in this manner being safe to consume.
Of course it was always possible he was entirely wrong. Still, it would be wiser if he played on the safe side of things. Venturing further into the cave, the wolf discovered the stone floor to be padded quite nicely with a rather cushy layer of moss. This would explain why the sounds in here did not echo as much as those caves he had explored in the north.
Pulling his mind from it's wandering state, he gave his head a little shake to return his thoughts to the present. With this much plant life around, there had to also be a source of water nearby. Adrian recalled his original goal, and was determined to find it. There seemed to be plenty of other passages for him to explore. Surely a small puddle or stream would be somewhere nearby.
