Wear me like a locket

He waited, not impatiently but anxiously, one second feeling like he should leave, the next, feeling like he should stay right where he was. He fidgeted with his paws, clawing at the rocks and kicking pebbles around as he stayed in place. When he finally heard a voice calling to him, his head whipped up, golden eyes widening as his heart pounded. Who was there? His eyes searched through light fog to find a dark figure, only to realize it was Karabela. Relieved to see her picking her way over the rocks toward him, his sun-streaked tail waved back and forth, reserving his smile for when she got a little closer. His breath came a little sharply as he watched her carefully move across that very narrow ledge, almost slipping. Ugh, why would anyone live here? he wondered secretly, but he would not voice the thoughts. After all, he was considering living here, if he was granted permission. Not like it was where he'd choose to live if it was up to him, but perhaps one could grow used to it after time.
When she finally made it safely to where he was standing, he chuckled slightly, tail flicking. "I'm well, Karabela, how have you been?" he returned the pleasantry, listening to her next question. He hesitated for a few moments, not because he didn't want to be here, just because... well, that's just how he was. He seemed to hesitate over everything. "Well, I've been giving it some thought," he began, his eyes looking over the rocky terrain, then shifting back to her, "And I'd like to join your pack, if you'd have me." He felt like it was kind of a lame answer. Maybe he could have answered with what he thought he could offer her and her pack, but instead he just made a wimpy plea to join her. He knew there were useful things he could do... he just wasn't used to a social lifestyle, so he knew it was something that would take some getting used to for him. But he was sure he could do it. He could learn to be around others, and make use of himself. Karabela seemed like someone he would want to follow, and he would work hard for her, even if this was way out of his comfort zone. He was tired of being alone, so he was ready to put himself into this, if she was willing to give him a chance in Ivory Ridge.
