Where as most wolves seemed to shrink down and burrow away in winter, Champion came alive. By now she was accustomed to southern climates, yes, but winter meant that she came into her own. Her size and coat meant that she barely felt even the worst cold snaps. Wind barely touched her. Ice couldn't stop her. And all her muscle meant that she could travel easily through the drifts were other wolves floundered and panted.

Already she'd worn a great many paths into the snow around Amenti. This was the land of giants, and she was not the only wolf in the borders to have huge paws, she did have the fluffiest, and it was easy to see which stretches of trail were the ones that she'd worn down. Even some of the deer and prey had taken to using Champion's highways - far easier than carving out some of their own.

On this day, the mammoth Beta was on the scent of an old buck, when the capering sing-song of a howl reached her ears. There was a stranger upon the borders - but at least this one had the good sense to wait there.

It was the work of a few minutes for Champion's bulk to shift from her hunting trails to the edge of the forest. And there she was greeted by the sight of a small, russet marked she-wolf. Burgundy eyes flitted over the stranger, analyzing by instinct. However this was, she carried herself with balance of either high born lady, or a high born killer. Most intriguing. Curiosity was ever present in Champion's cranium, often it took on a darker, almost morbid turn, but on his day it was innocent enough. She stepped up to the border, and with a slight dip of her head, spoke in easy, tranquil terms "Good day to you stranger. As your pelt holds no other pack scent, I assume you're here to consider joining. I am Champion, Chevalier to the Queenslayer Newt, and I've permission to bring newcomers to the Queen's attention. So tell me, what makes you worthy to walk neath the redwood shades with the assassian's pack?"
