Kinship

He was tired and his age really felt like it was starting to come through. More than once he was grateful that he'd stepped down from Right Wing last summer. Trying to juggle those duties alone had been hard and then if he'd had to do that and raise his kids by himself, well it wouldn't have been easy. Now he woke up with his joints aching on more than one occasion and he was lacking the same energy he used to have when he was younger. He was aging and that was the simple fact of life, but he didn't appreciate it either. He didn't want to think of himself as old. Kavdaya not being around wasn't exactly a comforting thought either. He felt angry with some of it, but mostly sad. He'd believed she was the woman that he'd spend the rest of his aging years with. He'd chosen to have kids with her. He'd supported her decision when she'd gone with Regulus, Surreal, and Falk to go search for the nomads, but he'd missed her. Surreal had been one of his closest friends and he'd believed it would help, but her presence had been practically non-existent since she'd returned. His kids had spent so much time without their mother he feared they wouldn't recover from it. How was he supposed to explain the fact their mom didn't spend enough time with them and the reasons why? He'd managed to slip away for a little while. He felt bad leaving the kids in the care of another, there were five of them after all, but he needed a short break. Naturally he couldn't quite get away from them all completely. Valor had decided to tag along, and for once he was glad they weren't so tiny. He was scared to see them grow up - he missed when they were tiny and adorable and still in the den day in and day out, but he was pleased with their progress. They were growing up so fast and proving that they were going to be amazing adults when the time came. Valor was keeping up the best he could, which in all honesty wasn't very well. Constantly he'd had to stop to let his son look around. This was the second time he'd been out of the plains and the first time he'd been allowed this far outside the borders. Other than the constant barrage of questions, it was a rather peaceful walk. Snow lightly coated the ground and the thought of how little it was reminded him of the north. It'd be colder there with a lot more snow. It reminded him of his younger days when Glaciem still existed and all the family lived in one place. His thoughts then strayed to Avalon and her pack. Had he run into Avalon first would he have joined her pack instead? It was interesting how one little event could be life changing. He ushered Valor along and padded through the basin. He knew they'd have to return home soon, but the chance to get out and stretch his legs was appreciated. He'd spent so long trapped within the borders of his home he'd forgotten how good it felt to explore. Naturally his explorations didn't last long. He should have been surprise when he spotted Avalon, but in truth they happened to meet like this often. He'd be out traveling and he'd happen to come across her. By this point it just couldn't shock him anymore. A grin tugged at his muzzle as he padded over to her with his tail waving softly behind him. "Avalon, how are ye?" Walk, "Talk" Think |
