Masqurading as a man with a Reason

my Charade is the Event of the Season

though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man

though my mind could think, I still was a mad man

I hear the voices when I'm dreaming

I can hear them say:

What was that? Gargoyle struggled to perk his ears against the raging wind. He was sure he'd heard something. A bark coming from ahead of him. Was that-yes- there it was again. "Hang on!" growled Gargoyle. The winds were whippping up the snow, like waves. Already the sun had been so blocked by snow that the world was grey. All that was, was white. But through that white, the brute plunged, forcing his bulk forwards with the wind.

When he did come upon the girl, he always ran her over. "Ithurial!" he gasped. She was so small, head down, burrowing through the snow as best she could. What where was Awaken? Had they been separated in the storm? Had the other male gotten himself lost trying to look for the girl? Part of Gargoyle wanted to keep going with the yearling in tow - to go search for his packmate. But first things first. Ithurial wasn't used to this weather! She was barely more than a pup! She needed shelter, and fast.

"Come along," Gargoyle rumbled, his muzzle by her ear. A moment later and that muzzle was latching onto her scruff. At a year old, Ithurial was almost full grown, but Gargoyle picked her up like a newborn - raising his head to keep her rump from dragging too much in the snow. She could struggle if she wanted, but his guess was that the girl would be too frostbitten to try. Besides, hopefully she'd recognized his voice. He was just going to get her to safety.

Back through the storm - this time going against the wind - went the Chief, taking the drifts in leaps and bounds, going by his sense of direction more than any other sense. Eventually the side of the moutnain loomed before them. The black mouth of the cave yawned open wide. Gargoyle's paws hit solid stone and he made a final dash for the shelter of the cavern. Once there, he placed the girl down gently, opening his jaws and stepping away to look her over. "You alright?" he asked. The words might have been toneless, but he was worrying.

He glanced back at the cave mouth. There were others out there he was worrying about too. Awaken for one. And he knew some of the other pack mates were out and about. They ought to be experienced enough to find shetler of course... but he couldn't help his wondering. And if Awaken had been responsible for Ithurial, surely the male would be out in the middle of that looking for her? He might get himself killed...

"What happened?" Gargoyle asked, now that the girl had had a minute to adjust. "Where was Awaken?"
