Devil's Advocate

He had put a great deal of thought into how to make these meetings interesting enough to be worth finishing his round before going back to his crew, but the distance between the last pack and this one was too short to come up with a decent plan of mischief. Maybe he'd have to settle for just planning on raiding later to make up for the boredom now. He considered taking a piss on the nearest border marker, but the whole ordeal was making him irritable. Might as well just get it over with.
Flopping his haunches on the border with a distinctly grumpy huff, he opened his mouth in a demanding call for the alpha. While he waited, not even bothering to stifle the yawn that gaped his jaws, he peered into the lands. Another grassland that looked like it had better than decent hunting. Reminded him a lot of the land he grew up in, and in fact if he remembered correctly his paternal grandmother had ruled over this land before her disappearance. He wondered idly whether it was worth being offended that someone had claimed a family land so he had an excuse to dislike the alpha here, but he'd certainly never been attached to that part of the family since they'd all been gone long before he'd been born, and even his mother's family had all vanished, so it seemed a bit pointless. Besides, he'd never really needed a reason to dislike someone.
He grinned suddenly. Maybe that's why he was such a shiftless demon of a wolf. A rootless drifter without any extended family to keep him grounded. Well it certainly made him a whole hell of a lot more interesting than anyone he'd met who did have an extensive family around them growing up. Maybe having grandparents around made you boring and dull.
He yawned again, then peered slit-eyed into the plains. "What about you, buddy? You going to bore me too?" he muttered aloud.

Unless otherwise mentioned as absent, assume that both Great Horned owl companions are nearby
