Just as Bass had told him, the leaves began to redden and fall on all the trees save the cone-like evergreens. The Rustling Thicket had become a regular destination for him, often navigating through the long grass and brushing against the tree trunks just as Bass had taught him- As a Primo would. After a long, particularly hot Summer the weather had begun to cool and already the long grass of the thicket was beginning to yellow. The bugs seemed to have all but disappeared, especially his favorite; the butterflies, but he supposed they would be back when the trees “woke up” as his juvenile mind understood it.
He stopped for a moment to rest and found himself unable to keep himself from darting through the small piles of leaves accumulated at the base of the sparse trees, giggling wildly as he rolled onto his back and kicked the crunchy leaves into the air, and rolled onto his paws to catch them. He shrieked with laughter as he was showered in various shades of red and orange, a wide childish grin on his face. He hated the idea of playing with his sisters but never missed an opportunity to play with small animals like mice and bugs, and of course whatever adults that would pay attention to him.
