a place to call home

The rabbit dropped lazily from his jaws as he took in The Orchard. “It’s b-b-beautiful!” He said gleefully. He rushed past her, the rabbit forgotten and pranced through the overgrown grass, already looking for a place to make his den. His tail wagged excitedly as he took a deep inquisitory sniff of their surroundings, aside from the overbearing scent of ripe fruit there were undertones of herbs he knew to be medicinal, nurtured by the rich soil that humans cultivated long ago. The orchard was wide with plenty of open space where nothing could sneak up on them without them knowing. The roots of the feral trees would provide great hiding places once they were dug out, but most importantly the sun was bright and shone freely, giving him the means to dry and preserve herbs for later use. The fact that the fruit might attract bears was thankfully far from his mind as he weaved through the trees, and for once he could see nothing but positive aspects.
