((Looking for a pack please!))
Ears plastered to his head, Zayne lowered his muzzle and turned his head to the side as another strong gust of wind blew snow and ice particles in his line of vision. Squinting his fern-green eyes, the male wolf trudged forward unto the snowy land. The snow was only a little above his hocks, but it was the wind and flurries that slowed his quest. The quest that had led him from his simple forest of birth to the edges of the battlefield, unto some grassy hills that were fairly nice but sparse. Those hills had given away to another forest, which had given way to a snowy tundra. He had ventured onward hoping to find his own pack. Half a days trek behind him, he had thought he found some wolves to inquire about, but the shapes he had taken to be wolves simply followed his steps, never coming close unless he had ventured too far near them, and then he had heard growls and felt warm breath on his rump. He had quickly left that place behind, something about those wolves... It struck an uneasy chord in him.
Snow blew into his nose. Startled out of his thoughts, he snorted and quickened his pace. There had to be someplace to escape the wind, surely. In his haste he saw a slight dip of blue shadow in the snow ahead of him, but didn't think anything of it. Leaping over a mound of snow, his paws landed in the shadowed dip. His muscles bunched as he crouched to leap up the other side. Just as he launched himself in the air, he felt the snow under his paws disappear. Slightly off balanced Zayne glanced downward in time to see the snow in the dip completely disappear. The dip hadn't been a simple rolling hill, it was a trench that snow had simply covered up. Quickly looking back up, the young wolf saw that the collapsing snow had taken away half of where he had intended to land. Oh for pup's sake-
His thought was cut short as his front paws landed on solid earth under the snow, but his rear paws found nothing but air as the front of his rear legs slammed into the edge of the trench. A yip was torn from him in his panic. His front paws scrambling for purchase, Zayne saw an old root his paws had uncovered. Lunging with accuracy, his jaws clamped unto the root. Using his front paws now that he had a decent hold, he felt around under the snow. Feeling a few rocks, he used those to grip his paws as his hindquarters swung itself over the edge. He made sure all four paws were safely on the ground before he released his death-clamp on the root. Unhinging his jaw, Zayne shook himself to get the fallen snow off of him. Well now. That was close.
The young wolf cautiously felt his way up the small slope, his heart rate slowly returning to normal. If he had fallen, there wasnt another wolf anywhere around to help him out. If there was a way out. Shivering -Because of the cold, of course- he continued more slowly. Hopefully soon, he would reach another who will accept him into a pack. He knew he was somewhere near the borders, he had scented the border markers a while back.
