Faine explained that she'd been born on a beach in a different place. So, she wasn't from here. Neither was Alarik, so he supposed the two of them had that in common. But he couldn't help wondering why she had left her childhood home. Alarik had been given no choice in the matter, and had been sent here against his will. Everything was fine now, and he loved this place, but still. He was curious as to why someone would choose to leave home. Or was it just for the freedom? The ability to explore and live a life of your own? But he didn't want to be nosy, Faine was still practically a stranger to him. Maybe someday he would ask, but not today.

Alarik smiled a bit when she talked about looking closely and seeing the little creatures that lived under the surface of the water. He followed her lead, his warm orange eyes narrowing as he tried to look down into the water. It was hard to focus on anything with the waves rolling the way they were, and when Alarik tried to look closer he ended up getting splashed in the face with one of those waves. He coughed a bit and huffed as he tried to get the saltwater out of his mouth and nose. Oh, that was not a pleasant feeling at all. Why was saltwater like that?

"Ugh," he grumbled, making a face as he tried to get the taste out of his mouth. But it wasn't like he could wash his mouth out with water, there was no fresh water around. He chuckled and looked at Faine. "Saltwater does not taste good," the young man chuckled.
