Tsiry noticed the wraith amongst the fog before Peregrine did. Pere, lost in the luxury of all-encompassing warmth, couldn't care less if they were about to be mauled by a pack of rabid raccoons. When her companion stood up on the brim of the hot spring and peered through the murk, the wolf simply slid down farther into her pool. If this was the way she was destined to leave this world, she'd consider herself lucky. "Peregrine, there's someone out there," Tsiry murmured under her breath. Peregrine, still sinking lower and lower, left just the tip of her snout, eyes, and ears above the water's surface. "I'm sure they're just out for a leisurely stroll," she said in a slow voice, one drawn out by her relaxation. Tsiry made a frustrated noise in the back of her throat and moved closer to the edge of the pool.

Despite Pere's best efforts, she couldn't help but crane her neck to see whatever it was the lemur had found in the fog. Sure enough, there was the ill defined figure of another wolf headed their way. Peregrine couldn't make out much at all of their features. "Such lovely weather and an unexpected visitor? It must be my birthday," she said in a voice dripping of sarcasm, loud enough to be heard. In her experience, wolves were much more dangerous when surprised, or even just when they believed they were being sneaky. Remove the mystery, corral them into a face-to-face conversation, and most decided you weren't worth the trouble of maiming. She waited to see what the male would do, still unable to see his fur or features with much clarity.
