WHEN THE IRON IN YOUR SOUL
~*~

Crusade was aware of her packmates begining to mass behind her. Pups, warriors, healers, - the first however was Awaken, who made an rather intersting display of himself. Crusade rolled her good eye heavenward. Bless him for his loyalty to his Chief, but really, now was hardly the time for lossing heads and storming off selfishly. The way Crusade saw it - the main body of the Glaciem pack was going to be moving as soon as this interview came to a close, and they could've used Awaken to help gather and guard the group. They had pups, after all, and a blind wolf too!

Males. Yeesh.

Yet while she might've disapproved of the Brave's actions, she more deeply disapproved the reprimand that this newly appeared he-wolf was giving him. "Your sovereign?" Crusade repeated quickly, cocking her head to get a better look at this stranger. "He has sworn no allegiance, and until he does, she is merely an outsider looking for power." Crusade had not come here to call names or sling petty insults, and such wasn't her intention now, however, the male had best watch his tone before the assembly.

What the male had next to say was better. Still, far from what would appease the gathered wolves, perhaps, but as far as the usual preceding of such cases go, it was just.

Next to speak, however, was another man, and this one she did approve of. She turned her head to let her gaze linger upon her stoic mate. Cifer had been one of the founding members. Crusade had accepted him herself and since that day he had been at the very heart of the Northern pack. He had every right to speak, and Crusade believed what he said was to his credit. Once more they awaited, with restraint, for the challenger to speak.

However it was the bone-jawed stranger who's voice against grated the frozen air. This time his disrespect crossed the line. His puppish arrogance betrayed him.

?I would think that the ?idoit? would be the one who thought a happy pack could be ripped of their leader and not respond with such-" she glanced with a subtle shrug in the direction which Awaken had chosen, "-flare." Then again, perhaps it did come as a surprise to this particular pair that packmates could love their Alpha so dearly as to display such anger at his removal. Yes, that was probably the case, wasn't it? ?That jaw of yours can certainly talk an fearsome game, sir, but I?m afraid my attention is for the one who actually won the match. Or was, anyway, you've rather spoiled my generous mood.?

She twisted her head away and focused her good eye upon the she-wolf. ?The Adravendi are of Valhalla," she said with a composure that vieled the intensity behind her words. "We had an alliance. I had known that there were changes in the ruling there, but I had not dreamed it would come to this. The challenge then, is far more treacherous than it first appeared." She sighed and blinked resignedly. "Very well, you have won for yourselves Glaciem's name, and the empty trappings of leadership." Her tongue licked dryly over her teeth "I wish you joy with them."

Crusade turned her back the leaders, aware that her mate was there to keep an eye should any further treachery ensue. She was washing her paws of the meeting, but she intended to wait at the top of the nearest pine dotted hill for the others. Whatever else they might be, in her mind they were still a pack and they were still her family, and of course she couldn't depart without rounding up the pups first. She nudged at her darlings, encouraging them to come along, unless of course they wanted to wait for their Dad.
