You Can Fool Yourself

It wasn’t just the presence of another that alerted Elpis to another, but rather the fact he quickly invaded any sense of personal space. Her bi-colored eyes fixed on the stranger thoughtfully, though there was a look of wariness in her eyes as well. When she felt he’d come too close she edged back, her motion not quite flighty but at the same time she was making it known she wouldn’t let him close enough to touch her. At least not easily.

...and then her memories flicked back to Forsaken, the man that had taken her away from her father’s and brother, the one that had broken her family…

“No, I’m not.” Her words were guarded. Her heart had already started to race, her eyes narrowing with more uncertainty now. But this male… he was closer to her age. All the same Elpis had to resist the urge to bolt. She wanted to find Viho… this male carried himself in a way that spoke too boldly. Reminded her too much of that dark male. She let out a low growl.

“Please keep your distance.” Her words wavered, betraying her worry if the look in her eyes was not enough. She would not be hurt like that again...
