Jupiter could tell even before Divo turned that he'd scared her good. She jumped and yelped, and he would have dissolved into a puddle of laughter right there had he not been committed to his charge. He wasn't going to run into her, but he wanted her to think was going to. At the last second he intended to dodge to the side and breeze by her all cool-like.

That never happened.

Divo swung around with the beating stick clenched firmly between her teeth and before Jupiter had time to do anything other than notice the stick it struck him across the left side of his face. He reeled to his right and then crashed to the ground, his legs stiff and tangled weirdly beneath him.

All he could do was lay there and blink up at Divo, his expression bewildered.
