Eventually they both had a significant hole dug around their own plants and he told her she could stop.

Gripping it lightly in his jaws at the bottom of the stem where the root began, he slowly tugged on the trillium until it came loose from the soil and he had a whole plant in his jaws.

’Allllright…’ Iskra muttered hesitantly, eyeing her own plant as Jouko began digging up the wilted one. ”It’s not that difficult, just try to be careful with it and pull the whole plant out without damaging the root too much.” ideally they’d both end up with intact plants so that they could use as much as possible.
