Missing link on the brink of destruction

The sun was setting when Sterling was coming down from the castle toward the water. After discovering the defeat and disbandment of Talis, the she-wolf had taken her time to explore the abandoned territories, her mind roving over memories of her puphood. However, she had decided that she would not spend the night within the familiar territory, knowing she would be kept awake by relentless thoughts. Instead, she wanted to go somewhere new to keep herself busy. Not only did she need to keep herself preoccupied, but she felt restless from the season that had fallen upon her. Summer, the season of her birth, and now the season when hormones wreaked havoc on her body. She hated the way it made her feel, and she hated how her scent changed as though it were announcing her existence to the world. The scent was beckoning for suitors to come and find her, but it really wasn't attention that she wanted.
The young woman trotted down the slight descent toward the beach, enjoying the feel as her paws reached sand, its softness squishing between her toes. She smiled lightly to herself, figuring this would be a good place to wander through the night. Pleased with the location, she bounded toward the water. Though it was cold, she splashed into the shallows. She stopped abruptly when the water lit up around her paws, eyes widening as she observed the green-blue glow and tried to make sense of it. It wasn't something she'd seen before, and she was surprised she'd never been to the beach in all the time she'd lived just next door. "This is too cool!" she exclaimed to herself, delighted as she lifted a forepaw and brought it crashing down on the water's surface to see it light up again. She lifted each paw individually, watching the glowing water roll off her coat and laughing to herself as she did so. Fascinated by her discovery, Sterling was blissfully ignorant to the rest of her surroundings, fixated on the glowing shoreline.
