Where Will Your Path Lead?

He padded along the wall, pausing to investigate scents now and then, making mental notes on them. An injured bison there, and old elk here, and the occasional passage of a loner near the wall before the scent deterred them. No doubt many wolves drew close enough to get a look at the wall. It wasn’t exactly something you couldn’t miss.

He didn’t mind. As long as they stayed outside the wall, he was mostly content to let them be. But he was also using this patrol to think. Currently on his mind was the young woman, Sterling Bade. Paladin had reported her to be healed enough now that she was able to travel, and might perhaps be able to do light work.

As he finished his patrol his path took him through the western passage and across the plains at an easy gait, and as he reached the ravine guarding the cave system in the hill, he gave a gentle howl to her, stopping to sit in the wide area outside the cave.

It was a sultry evening, and crickets were singing a choir in the early Summer warmth. Now that Sterling was well, he wanted to see what she had planned, whether she’d like to stay as part of Celestial for a while before moving on, or to stay permanently – something he thought Paladin might like to hear – and make a life here. If she wished to leave now, he wouldn’t hold her against her will.
