The devil's in the next room

She quite liked this silent acceptance that she and her older brother had to meet back up and travel together when they could, but an understanding that sometimes she wanted go off on her own. Today was one of those days that she craved some space from Chasm and Bones. Ever since winter had hit she had felt more uneasy and anxious than usual. She was mildly aware of what being in heat was and that this is what she was going through, but she didn't fully grasp how much it was effecting her mood. Her paws crunched through the snow that was still steadily falling around her. It was snowing an awful lot even though they were in the south, more than she was really expecting. Her rainbow-marked back stood out like a beacon against the white background. She came to a stop a couple of feet from the river that cut across the land. The banks were mostly frozen and she could see chunks of ice slowly floating down the river. She wasn't really planning on trying to cross it in this weather, but seeing it now it certainly crushed any slight inclination to do so. She turned and began wandering down the length of the river instead. Even though she had gone out this way to get some air and have a moment alone, she still strangely wanted company. She felt like her own contradiction. She thought that some time to think and breathe would help this anxious feeling crawling under her skin, but now she was starting to think it was making it worse. Her magenta gaze scanned the land around her, silently hoping someone would appear in her path to take her mind off of herself. |
