By the grace of your God

Everything had happened so suddenly. One moment he'd been napping, enjoying the dreary day, and then suddenly the rain had began. Once he'd heard Razi's called he had moved to join the group near the top of the canyon, and though he'd almost made it to the top, once the wall of water had broken and begun to flood the canyon he'd been distracted by something else. Zinnia had been swept up by the waves and knocked unconscious, and he'd made a split decision to save her. There was no need for a loyal follower of the Abraxas family to die needlessly - though he'd chose family over her, if it really came down to it, he was lucky that he didn't have to make that choice right then. No, he felt like this was a sign from the gods, urging him to prove himself.
And prove himself he would, carefully navigated down the tricky rock slopes of the canyon to reach her side on the ledge she'd landed on. He had no idea why, or how, the flood had began - he only knew he had to make it out in one piece, hopefully with Zinnia alive and well. It was hard to tell if she'd sustained any injuries; her frame was soaked and as limp as could be, he noticed, as he wrapped his jaws around her scruff and started to drag her into the higher reaches of the canyon. He was significantly larger than her, which made the job doable - if he was much smaller he wasn't sure he'd be able to pull her at all - but dead weight was still no easy task to carry, and it took most of his strength to carry her to the top of the canyon.
By the time he reached what he could consider safety, he was panting heavily from exhaustion. The rain still pelted the earth, nearly blinding him completely. He released his hold on Zinnia for a moment, letting her unconscious form slump to the ground. There was no sign of the group that he'd seen earlier - visibility was poor enough as it was, and he had no way to really find them. Taking a bit to catch his breath, he devised a plan. The rushing of water over the side of the canyon said that these lands were uninhabitable, so staying would be foolish. Heading to this Empire's counterpart further west sounded like a better option... albeit not a terribly easy one. With a grunt he finally moved to lift Zinnia back up between his jaws to drag her after him. Who knew how long it'd take him to get there, and surely Zinnia would be battered and bruised by the time they reached Eclipse Empire - both from being smashed against the canyon walls as well as dragged by him - but he had no better options, and at least she'd make it there alive.
