It hadn’t taken him long to recover, mostly what he needed was to rest his weary muscles and drink. At the current moment he laid in the shade of a willow, his head resting between his paws as he dozed silently. For a man on a mission Pegasus was still very young and rarely kept his guard up. In his homeland he had always had the security of a guard to accompany him when he was outside his grandfather’s den. The boy was after all a prince and any harm done to him would be an offence punishable by death, both to the offender and to the guard who had failed in his duties.

The male dreamt pleasantly of his family; he and his half-brother sparring in the courtyard and then of his father sharing stories from his numerous adventures, both as a crusader and in the near mythical land he had come from before landing in his mother’s kingdom. Suddenly his father’s face grew grave and the atmosphere darkened. He was back to just a few weeks ago when his father had determined he and his littermates were old enough to hear of the scars he carried on his soul. He awoke with a start, his eyes snapping open as he glanced wildly around the unfamiliar land. Suddenly he remembered; he had crossed the ocean, intending to avenge his father and earn him his freedom. His father was a man of triumph and strength. For him to fear any wolf was a stain on his reputation as a knight and as the paramour of his mother. He settled his head back down and wuffed a sigh. Now that he was here, the odds seemed stacked against him. How could one young boy hope to defeat a family of monsters?
