If he was going to start his own pack yet again he would need to find an appropriate land for it. The North had been too harsh and had only gathered slothish miscreants rather than hardened warriors as he had hoped. The East had far too many memories that he wished to leave behind, both of Ruina and Abaven. The pack he raised now would welcome his father’s bloodline, but it would not be Ruina in any sense, it would not keep their traditions nor their doctrine. More importantly it would not recognize Elias’s whelps as above him or his children because they were pushed out from his mate rather than any other woman the ash king had chosen. The demons had chosen his mother, they had lead Elias to her, for the singular purpose of creating him.
He moved through the waves of grass, his head raised to regard the shifting clouds as they rolled above him. This place had a notable advantage of providing cover for warriors who became familiar with the terrain. Thoughts of marker stones and ways to orient his forces began to run wild through his mind, but the thoughts were underlined with a burning desire to tell Astarois, or, much more privately, he wondered what Kai would say when he told him.
