Valdís soldiered along methodically. She let her thoughts wander as they would while she let her body do the heavy work of climbing up the volcano. She was making good progress when a young man said that maybe it wasn't abandoned. She gazed at him curiously. "Maybe what's not abandoned?" She hadn't said anything so she wasn't quite sure who, if anyone, the young man was talking to. Then suddenly she realized that he seemed familiar. She squinted at him and walked closer, trying to recognize his face in the light. When she did she grinned. "Rogdar is that you? You've really grown. How have you been and who is that you have with you?" It was almost alarming to see him so big now. In her memory's mind he was still a little pup.

Her ears twitched at the sound of shifting rock and she turned to see a yearling female not far off. Valdís gazed questioningly at the woman. "Hello, there."
