His heart tittered at Hannibal’s gentle touch and kind words. He doubted anyone had ever been as kind to him as Hannibal was and he flourished beautifully in the other man’s presence. “Like a flower.” He thought, unaware that the gentle voice in his mind was his own and not his brothers.

Reluctantly he turned his eyes away from Hannibal’s and looked into the sky, taking in the brilliant show above them. “It’s so beautiful.” He marveled, leaning backward just enough to press his body against his lovers. He thought of Hannibal carrying him off into those lights and whisking him away from all the pain he had endured in his life, but his place with Shaye kept him grounded in Abaven. His thoughts touched on Shaye and guilt washed over him like a cold wave.

What would Shaye think of this? What would she think of him seeing someone from another pack? Someone of his own gender no less. Most of the wolves in Boreas were more tolerant than the wolves of his homeland, but it varied between individuals. Lately she had distanced herself from him, she had distanced herself from everyone but Rhyme it seemed and the small male knew exactly what that meant. The mating of cousins had never been an issue in his birthland, nor brothers and sisters, or grandfathers and granddaughters for that matter. What mattered was procreation and no taboo existed to hinder that. Sodomy on the other hand was strictly for pleasure, and pleasure while mating was sinful. For most of his life Spider had believed in that doctrine and it wasn’t until he met the black god in the southern continent that he felt liberated from the oppressive dogma of his parents.

He closed his eyes and sighed. He was thinking too much, he simply wanted to be with Hannibal and be with his lover peacefully rather than let his mind be carried away by things he was powerless to change.
