The Weak Fall Prey

Song couldn’t deny how much he enjoyed the winter in the north. His coat had filled out and with his large size he barely noticed the frigid air. He felt like he’d been made to live in the icy tundras. He enjoyed the cover of the giant redwoods today, and though the winter snow was heavy here there were patches of bare ground beneath the giants. Icy white paws carried him over the beds of needles, the rare sunlight glinted off his gilded markings.
His hunting success rate had increased here too, with his white coat he was much more difficult to pick out from the background. The Destruction had managed to escape a few close calls because of it as well. There had been a giant of an ice bear that had lumbered right past him the other day. He’d been curled up, napping in the snow, when the beast shuffled past right in front of his nose. Song had barely breathed when he realized what had happened, and nearly raced out of his coat when the bear was far enough away he could make a hasty retreat.
The thoughts made him smile as he bent his head down to catch the scent of an elk. The old cow hadn’t been able to keep up with her herd and Song had every intention of taking advantage of her weakness to strengthen himself. Bringing his head back up with confidence he searched between the giant trees with his light blue gaze. He couldn’t see her, but couldn’t imagine she was very far away from him. She bedded down more frequently the last couple of days now he only had to find her hiding place.
