Brandr's ears pinned tightly to his head as the cold wind bit through his thick coat. The clouds rolled over him in a pale mass of gray that sat heavily upon the sky. He'd travelled north to investigate a few stories he'd heard from a loner that passed near the Abaven border when he'd been out hunting. Tales of beautiful stones and unique items and a river bed that ran with gold. Brandr had been hoping to get something special for Corentine for their anniversary, even though he was a bit late and so he'd taken the time to trek north. He was standing here in the supposed river of gold but he didn't see much beyond it's marble walls. It was pretty, but not quite what he expected and there was nothing he'd found that he could bring back. To further hinder his searching he had to first dig through the snow to find the marble. This was not going well at all.

He shook his head. Brandr knew better than to continue this line of thinking. How could be be so ungrateful? He found the Marble Wash at least and that was something. He'd gotten turned around in a storm a few days before and found himself in uncharted territory. He'd been terribly lost. At least now that he knew he was in the wash that he was close to the S.S. Antiox. He wasn't sure what kind of name that was for a territory but supposedly there was a great metal cave full of wonders. Let's see that would be to the east of here. Brandr tried to study the sky but it was hard to tell where the sun was when everything was just an even, depressing shade of gray.

He continued on for awhile until he heard the sound of ocean waves and swore. Dam. That meant he'd been heading north. Brandr took a deep breath, trying to focus on the positive. Ok, ok, so at least he knew where north was so east… had to be this way. Sighing he sat down as his stomach growled. It'd been five days since his last meal and he was rapidly burning calories during this long, cold journey. So far he hadn't seen much in the way of prey this far north. Maybe he could find a lemming or two? Any sort of snack, however small would be very welcome to the hungry man. He hoped Corentine and Lucine weren't too worried. He'd planned on a long trip but by now he was overdue. Brandr would take a brief hour or two to find some food and then he'd continue on to this strange, magical cave. He'd come so far he didn't want to leave empty-pawed. If he could return with at least a good story of his adventures that would be something.

Brandr set his nose to tracking but without any scents to really start to follow he ended up wandering down to the beach. Maybe there were some arctic birds he could pick off. As he worked his way down to the beach he spied what at first looked to be fuzzy rocks until they started to move. He froze. What in the heck were… were those seals? He'd heard of seals, even spied a few now and then. A small group… herd… did they call them herds? There were about five seals in the group that he could see resting on the beach. The seal nearest him reached up to scratch its belly with a flipper.

Instinctively, Brandr crouched down. The creatures looked to be mostly fat which was a fuel he was in sore need of but how exactly was he supposed to take one of these down? They were big and no doubt heavy. On top of that they were all blubber, where exactly was he supposed to bite? It would take him forever to work deep enough to do enough damage and by that time one of the beasts would probably drag him right off into the sea. That would never do. He supposed he did have a bit of leeway in that a good chunk of the ocean was covered in ice but a section about ten feet long near the beach was free of ice. Once they hit that he'd never catch them. They were slow but was he fast enough to take one down? Brandr's brow furrowed as the tip of his tail twitched. What to do, what to do…
