He was a bit disappointed that he couldn’t bite the cat, but he would rather menace it than do nothing and it was that fact that mollified him. Someday he'd be in the thick of it and tangling with pesky intruders.

The boy made a show of trying to get behind the cat - barking and growling loudly to draw its attention - and in doing so hopefully would give the adults an opening to sneak in for an attack. He leaped away as it spun to face him and a gleeful yelp escaped his lips before he could swallow it. Boy that was close!
