It seemed the boy was determined to follow her all over the pack. He seemed oblivious to her rogue status so perhaps she could use his calm demeanor to shield her from the interest of the pack's adult residents.
Amaretto had no more thought of that idea when her hawkish ears picked up the drumming sound of paws on the move. She'd been afraid of such a sound so it immediately flooded her with dread and adrenaline. The small woman had just enough time to look to her left and then duck before her attacker's jaws sailed harmlessly over her head. She heard a familiar voice (he was here!) but she was under attack and the immediate threat had to be dealt with before she could focus on anything else.
Her numerous injuries would certainly bring her down, but she'd known this was a possibility way back at the battlefield. She'd accepted the risk then and she accepted it now.
Amaretto jutted out her left shoulder and sought to slam down and sideways into the much taller woman's forelegs. It was one of the few places on her torso that was free of bite wounds so it seemed like a fairly safe weapon she could use without making her own injuries worse. Her goal was simple: bring the giant crashing down.
