Greed vs Cassiel

Cassiel bristled at the coydog who led them to the ring, but remained silent. His opinion on being called "cute as a button" was irrelevant to the situation at hand, and while he didn't care whether he won or lost he wanted to go as far in this tournament as his skill would take him - not be kicked out before his second round because he'd sassed a referee.
He instead turned his attention to sizing up his opponent, a male almost identical to him in height and build, though he had perhaps a few years on Cassiel. At least he was an ordinary wolf, without any of the nonsense the crazy bitch in his last fight had going on. Cass gave him a curt, unfriendly nod of acknowledgement and set his own defenses as they entered the ring.
Which was good, because the other male wasted no time (Cassiel heartily approved) after the coydog gave the signal, and rushed at Cassiel. Cass braced himself for the impact, but the male instead passed by him. Braced as he was he wasn't as ready to move as he should have been, and while he leaped forward once he realised it was almost too late. Greed's left shoulder clipped Cass' right hind leg before he could make a clean getaway - Cass let the momentum of the hit spin his hindquarters away from Greed, but the male's jaws had caught and scraped bloody furrows along the center of Cass' tail. Luckily since Cass was in motion, the teeth couldn't close fast enough to catch hold, because that might have meant broken vertebrae. The bloody gouges were bad enough.
Continuing to pivot on his forequarters, Cass sought to face Greed's left shoulder, and he threw himself forward in an attempt to slam the point of his right shoulder into the space between Greed's left upper arm and his ribs, twisting his own upper body to his left slightly to try to translate some of his forward motion to the left in an attempt to dislocate the shoulder joint. His jaws he aimed to grasp the back of Greed's neck as close to his ears as possible, to sink his teeth into the muscle and control Greed's head movement.
