He had hoped that she would settle, and accept his silent comfort until the end of the storm, when he would leave her to her anger and hatred. It was too much to hope for, and she got angrily to her feet, the coat falling from her back as she growled at him. how dare you she said, and he wasn’t certain if he should feel angry or sad. He had a feeling she was never going to forgive him, and he would never again be able to protect her from her fear of a thunderstorm. That thought filled her with sadness, as he remembered her soft sleeping form in front of him that first night. Of her fear as she lay her alone and bitter angry instead.

She moved to go to the entrance of her den, and he got silently to his feet, watching her, uncertain how to proceed. How was he to know just how tricky a female could be?

what is wrong with you she accused him next, and he managed, only just, to keep a self-hating smirk from his lips. Oh she didn’t know the half of it. He growled as he listened to her words, and struggled to think of an appropriate response. He had already told her how he was sick of being the one to hurt her, and wasn’t sure how else to get his point across. “In my entire life, I have never met someone who would turn down the gesture of bringing in a slave, I was raised be people who enslave others. You chose to put yourself here, Zee.” he growled again, then shrugged, and hung his head. He couldn’t mast his anger, not now. Without it, he felt more helpless and exposed then ever. “Dammit Zee, have your damn den then” he stalked past her, leaving the Cheetah skin gift on the floor as he moved out into the rain, promptly sat down in front of her den, and looked up into the sky. He let it fall across his eyes and down his muzzle as he took long, slow breaths and tried to understand what it was about Zee that agitated and infuriated him all rolled into one.
