Familiarity

He’d found his sister, but his job of finding her and dragging her back would be much more complicated now that she was pregnant. How much trouble would he be in if he just grabbed her scruff and dragged her back? How much would she injure herself and her unborn pups? No, he couldn’t do that. Not now. Instead he would need to convince her to go home where pups were cherished and much safer…the surface was no place to raise a litter of pups, at least in the caves one knew of the dangers but up here….anything could happen. The sun was beginning to rise, his time to wander on the surface was ending. Fortunately he had wandered from the redwoods to this interesting place with a tunnel. Tunnels…they were familiar, they were safe. The dark brown wolf would pause at its mouth glancing over his shoulder before entering the shadows of the tunnel. Nostrils flared, pulling in the scents of wolf and earth. The beast would sigh, a familiar scent. He didn’t pay attention to if the scent of wolf was stale or new, as his eyes adjusted rapidly to the difference in light he would walk further, his stride relaxing with the familiarity of being in darkness. The tunnel wall would brush against his right side, the texture was different than what he was used to but that didn’t matter to him. Eventually, Thoren would stop walking, the slight outline of the tunnel walls telling him he could go further, but he had gone far enough, no surface wolf would trek this deep into the tunnel…not shrouded in complete darkness. "NOTE:" Thoren is extremely sensitive to light and can see slightly better at night than the average wolf. |
