The woman listened intently to the scruffy male’s words. The fashioning of the headdress sounded long and arduous, with an immense amount of trial and error. But the end result seemed to be worth it: the thing really was exquisite. She glanced over the other items, amazed at what these Hjarrandi wolves could do.
The male finished talking, and questioned her interest. She looked up in surprise and embarrassment: she had nothing but the fur on her back and the hoops in her ear. She hadn’t meant to lead him into thinking she was able to purchase it. “I— no, I’m sorry, I have nothing to trade. I was just curious,” she stuttered. Internally, she kicked herself: what was she doing, stuttering and embarrassed, in a place like this? She absolutely wasn’t projecting an air that commanded respect. Sure, she didn’t get out much, but that was precisely the reason she had to at least seem strong. Like a force to be reckoned with.
The goddess’s eyes traveled over the male’s wares again, no less full of awe than the first couple times she’d scanned them. She’d love to get her hands on some of these trinkets, but how? Certainly she wouldn’t be able to fashion something worth trading before the end of the day. These things took too much time.

And so our haloes became collars and golden chains; our proud, shining divinity became the very thing that bound us.
