A Bit of Downtime

she felt a familiar pang of loneliness combined with frustation as the boy spoke. though he knew enough to call her what she was - at least partially - the term was foreign to her. was that what it was, when she didn't speak? mute. mu-oh-te... if she could speak it she would. but she had only felt herself comfortable enough to say a few words to another person once in this land. he did ask if she could hear, causing her to nod her head gently. some hope flashed in her pink eyes; she felt like bouncing on the spot. so he knew what the no-speak was and she could hear him... that was something, right? the sudden new voice caused her to flinch badly, having not spotted the cat there. it approached and spoke, causing her to focus on it. she gave another nod, this time more vigorously. the cat could read; something she always assumed other wolves could do. Mother had taught her to communicate but she wasn't here anymore. the woman had been her rock and without her, Niamh felt defenseless. but she had Jupiter to help her. speaking of Jupiter... this boy smelt like him. she had no concept of packs and pack scents yet, so she pushed it out of her mind. she tried to think of what else to say before digging her nails into the earth again. she wrote her name. "am Niamh" she scribbled "who you both?" |
niamh is selectively mute and does not talk; not even to give her name. as such people are free to make up names for her or assume one
