Deathbelle

The more she threw herself into her work the less she thought about Iolaire and their last meeting. The copper bangle still decorated her arm, even though she felt a pang in her heart every time she glanced it. Being with Io was supposed to have been easy, and she had felt better for a time, but her misery had been shifted. She was finding peace in being without Archon. Toxicity was often beside her during the loneliest nights, and Hannibal’s return a welcome distraction.
But she missed Io’s presence.
That fact made her confused more than anything, she was still hurt from the day and even worse she’d been forced to worry about the dainty woman. No one she spoke to seemed to have seen her, and Bell began to wonder if she had lost her completely. Belle avoided the fur bed they shared, and beyond removing her bangle tried not to think about that day or the Armada healer.
She thought herself crazy when Io passed by suddenly. Deathbelle was lounging on a raised dais against the wall, blocked from view of the path at first. The Empress blinked, hesitating as the moment presented itself. ”Iolaire.” She croaked softly, unsure if it was enough to gain the woman’s attention.
