Salamanders

Desolate was overjoyed to not be locked away on the island any longer. Theory had told them all it was safe to go home, and the little pup told himself he'd never be made to leave the serpent plains ever again. He'd hoped that returning home would help with his anger issues, but they seemed to flare up more and more as time went by. He didn't understand why he could be so happy one moment and enraged the next, but he'd tried his best to mitigate any damages by keeping far away from his siblings and pack whenever possible.
Being by himself made the pup lonely, and his mother seemed to never be around. It was times like this that he wished he had a father to talk to. Maybe he'd know why he blew up randomly. As he sat and thought, a salamander slithered by his rock. The pup's ears perked and he crouched, stalking the lizard. He'd not had many hunting lessons, but the thing was small he knew he could catch it if he tried. He focused intently upon his prey, moving slowly and ignoring the goings-on around him.
