Rava had somehow fallen into a light slumber, enough to bring a headache behind her eyes but rest to her body. The sudden commotion woke her with a start, and before the door haad even hit the barrier on the end swing she was stood up. Her heart threatened to beat out of her chest as reality sunk in and wakefulness was whole. Her breathing came in short breaths as he stalked forward slowly, she didn’t dare raise her eyes to him but could only guess that his eyes were looking them over. He was much larger than any of the other guards they’d dealt with, and the air about him screamed who he was.

The girl was frozen, head down and tail between her legs as she again tried to disappear into the woodwork as he spoke. Venom laced his voice and his silent threats were obvious. Like she was moving through molasses Rava mirrored Saia’s motions, lowering her shoulders slightly. The fabrics of her cloak continued to obscure her. The young girl didn’t know what to do and had no problem letting Sia do the speaking. Not that words would form even if she wanted to say them.

This was their new master, the cruelty in his voice and the way he could cause her to freeze in fear made known the hardships she would face in the future. Life with this man would be anything but easy. Rava didn’t know what to do or what to expect. She wasn’t a trained slave but she had been considered property all of her life. She knew earning would be tremendously difficult and she hadn’t even set eyes on him yet.
