Kai was far from skilled when it came to fighting, but in general he was adept at using his body instead of his words to get his point across. His people had always been a more brutish, animalistic sort; quick to jump into fights when they needed to, whether they were serious ones or otherwise. This one was far from a serious fight. Kai had been half inclined to let out his frustrations on some unsuspecting opponent, but with Rhyme he felt like they were evenly enough matched - and the other man had already earned Kai's interest, if not his respect - so he felt less inclined to really go for blood, though he wouldn't go easy on the older man either.

He felt the pressure of Rhyme's front legs moving around his shoulders and trying to force him down. He tried to hold strong, pushing up with all his weight on his front limbs in an attempt to keep himself upright, while Rhyme aimed for the side of his neck. Fiercely he shook his head, no doubt causing injury to his flesh there, but Rhyme hadn't dug in deeply enough for him to worry about excessive blood loss. Another whip of his head tried to force one of his tusks beneath Rhyme's throat, hoping a twist of his jaw would be enough to force his head to the side, sure that the dull tip of his tusk would never penetrate his coat enough to draw blood, only to bruise if he was lucky.
