He pursed his lips and watched her avoid his gaze. Slowly his eyes slid from her face to take in the rest of her. When faced with a threat that might initiate a fight one of the best things you could do to prepare was play close attention to their behavior. The rapid rising and falling of the chest, the darkening of the eyes, tensing; these sorts of things hinted at action. If you paid close enough attention to your opponent you could guess what they planned to do before they did it. You could be ready. Of course if you guessed wrong you could also be made a fool, but like any skill intuition needed to be honed.
It was with boyhood fighting lessons in mind that he took stock of her person. When he looked closely he could make out the forceful kick of her pulse in the hollow of her throat. The short, shallow breaths that went with it were far easier to see. Whenever possible she kept her eyes from his face.
She rested her ear on his side briefly and he couldn't help but teasing, "Quite a talent, being able to find bruises with your ear."
When Riva told him what the next step would be Pyrrhic rolled further on his side and lifted his foreleg so that she could huddle against his semi dry chest fur. "The huddling is easy enough, but I don't see how you can find something for immunity in this cave." Honestly he was hoping she hadn't brought anything with her so she'd be forced to think of another excuse.
