What is this?

Jed was both intrigued and honestly quite worried with the way this pup decided to come upon him with no fear at all. He watched her with one ear swiveling to keep his attention divided, and when she asked him the question a rumbling laugh slipped out. The brown male lowered himself into the snow to lay before her for a moment, nodding his head once in a sage-like manner.

"Yes. This is what is called snow." She reminded him of his younger brother before his attitude had changed, and it was endearing to watch her lift her little head to the sky and the falling flakes. "It's water that gets frozen on its way to the ground, and it sticks to everything." He lifted his own muzzle up and opened his mouth to catch a few of the icy flakes on his tongue. "Except for warm things. It turns back into water once it touches something that gives off heat."

A moment passed before he tilted his gaze back down to the young wolf, swishing his tail behind him. "What is your name, little one?" he asked at last, a kind expression on his scarred face. "You can call me Uncle Jed, if you like." A chuckle rumbled through his chest again.
