The girl would jerk back, attempting to wrench free of the man's hold on her scruff, even as he shook her. And then, Mal nearly choked as, surprisingly, he pushed his foreleg into her jaws rather than pulling away. In the movement, her forelegs slammed down to the earth, luckily avoiding the slam of his foreleg, and trying like hell to settle herself, find some semblance of balance between her kicking back legs and the rattling that the red man was succeeding at delivering.

And then he was pressing forward, trying to force her down. No! His forelegs out of range, his hold on her neck and shoulders secure, she did the only thing she could, jaws snapping inward in an attempt to bite the hell out of the left side of his neck, attempting to drag him down with her.
